It’s no secret trying to surprise the bride is a task all on its own. Rick covered all his bases when planning a “random” weekend away without the kids. He even arranged for the kids to attend a very last minute birthday party. I was going to cut our weekend short to get back for them to attend. I thought something might be up but he threw me off by planning a date to an outdoor mineral hot springs. He can’t be proposing while we’re in bathing suits looking less than spectacular? Right? Maybe I misjudged the whole weekend. I’m enjoying the date to its fullest while Rick is trying to play it cool because the gentleman in charge of our proposal called and canceled the event due to weather on our drive up…while I’m in the car with him. I’m enjoying the hot springs and he is sweating for a whole different reason. He truly is amazing under pressure. Fast forward to the next day, we get up early for a breakfast reservation, remember we have to do this early because we have a kids birthday party to rush home for. On our way to breakfast we make a wrong turn and waiting for us in a field is a hot air balloon! This is our thing! One of our first dates early on was a hot air balloon ride in California that changed everything! My heart dropped and I was in pure disbelief! He adjusted his plan for weather but still made it perfect! Up in the sky he asked me to be his forever and it was the easiest yes I’ve made. He arranged for grandparents to take the kids to the birthday party so we could enjoy an amazing breakfast alone and soak it all in. But the surprises don’t end there. On the way home I tried to derail his plans half a dozen times without knowing. Me planning everything runs deep apparently. We go to pick up the kids from the grandparents and both of our families are waiting for us! A complete shock for me! An amazing way to celebrate the perfect day. He’s truly amazing, that’s a small insight on why I call him my unicorn. But I’ll save that full story for another day.
