We met at a euchre meet-up in San Francisco. It was a Sunday afternoon and Nancy had never attended any of this group's events before. She showed up with a very basic understanding of the game, not realizing that they were playing a different version that day called Pig It/Hog It. However, everyone was very nice and welcoming. During her last game, she was partnered with a cute guy named Richard, who kept making jokes. They won that game (Nancy "pigged it" and got a bunch of points on the last hand!) and Richard offered to walk her to the bus stop, since it was now dark outside. Nancy continued to attend the euchre meet-ups and saw Richard a few more times. Two months later, they "matched" on OKCupid and had their first date on January 30th, 2016 - where they quite literally saw fireworks, at the Superbowl event in downtown San Francisco.
We were on a Christmas & New Year's cruise that stopped in various Central American countries. After spending the day in Belize, they had a nice dinner on the ship and at about 8pm, Nancy was ready to go to sleep (very unlike her). But alas, they were already all dressed up and Richard persuaded her to stay awake. So, they found a spot on the very windy outside deck (where the DJ was playing overrated songs that you've heard 1000 times) and Richard suggested Nancy get a glass of wine. She did, and her mood improved. Just before midnight, the crew started setting up ice sculptures and passing out champagne. At midnight, everyone was screaming and cheering, the ice sculptures were pushed into the pool, and Nancy took a video of the chaos. When she looked up from the video, Richard was on his knee with a beautiful ring. She started crying and no one noticed (well, besides Richard of course). Then they danced to the bad DJ (who got a little better after midnight somehow).
