Addy and Richard first met at UC San Diego where they were part of the same fellowship. Richard, two years older, was the cool upperclassman who didn’t have time for freshman, or so Addy thought. The reality couldn’t have been any further from the truth, as Richard was simply waiting for the right girl to come along. It wasn’t long before their paths crossed and became fast friends. They bonded over a common love for trash TV, pho, Alesso, “that’s what she said” jokes and being the “one friend who can’t drink”. Yet it wasn’t until after Addy graduated that things started to get interesting. First came a “hangout” that suspiciously resembled a date. Then came the serendipitous Vegas trip. If you’re invited to this wedding, then you know the story from here. Over the next five years, Addy and Richard overcame long-distance, new jobs, and grad school together. Between that, they found time to travel the world, cheer on the Warriors, visit Disneyland 60-something times, dance countless nights away, and get a puppy! Which leads us to now. Addy and Richard are so excited to celebrate their wedding with each of you. The memories created together are what Addy and Richard cherish most and they can’t wait to share their big day with the people they love most. See you all on April 25th, 2020!
Thursday, Sept 20th: THE NIGHT BEFORE Addy: “What should I wear to your Deloitte dinner tomorrow?” Richard: “The red dress. Definitely the red dress.” Richard hoped that his strange insistence on Addy’s outfit wouldn’t set off any red flags, but this had to be perfect. Friday Sept 21st: THE PROPOSAL Richard picks up Addy from work and they head towards Sausalito for Richard’s company dinner. Looking outside, the sky is dark and cold and Addy’s definitely regretting her dress choice for this “End of Summer” themed event. “I can still change into jeans…”, Addy thinks. While Addy is distracted by the ominous fog rolling in, Richard nervously checks his phone. Courtney, Richard and Addy’s awesome photographer and friend, had arrived at Cavallo Point early to set up the perfect proposal spot. After shoo-ing away a few tourists, Courtney puts on the finishing touches before texting Richard the exact location. By now, Richard and Addy have crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and take the first exit towards Cavallo Point. Having never been there before, Richard prayed hard that there were some buildings around so that it wasn’t a dead giveaway that there was in fact no work dinner. Out of nowhere, a restaurant appeared near the water. And its crowded with middle aged people. In business casual dress. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES. Addy: “Oh there’s the Deloitte dinner, right?” Richard: “Umm, yeah…yeah definitely.”
They park and start walking towards the restaurant when Richard pauses. Richard: “Hey, none of my friends are here yet and I hate talking to people I don’t know. Why don’t we walk around and check out the views before heading in?” Addy, feeling quite cold, begrudgingly agrees. Thankfully the view really was amazing. They walked a little ways before stumbling across a blanket, some flowers, and a sign that reads Reserved: Richard and Addy. Richard takes Addy’s hands and gets down on one knee. The moment was here. Richard nervously speaks for a bit. Tears are flowing. Richard pops the question. Addy says YES! After some more tears, kisses and photos, it was time to end the night with a fancy dinner in SF. Or that’s what Richard said. Friday, Sept 21st: THE AFTER PARTY While driving back to the city, Addy is furiously texting her best friends. Best friends who all happened to be scattered across the country mind you. And of course, they are all texting back: “OMG WHAT?! HOW DID HE DO IT?! LET ME SEE THE RING.” In reality, they’ve all been in on it for months. Those scattered friends had flown in from all over to surprise her. In that moment when they were playing along through text, they were all in the same room along with 25 of our closest friends. Richard and Addy park and start walking. They pass the usual restaurants and walk until they reach an alley with a row of loft homes in SOMA. Definitely sketchy, but one of the lofts is different. There’s a glowing sign that reads “Reserved: Richard and Addy”. Addy nervously opens the door and is basically tackled by her best friends. “SURPRISE!!!” And the party was on.
