Our Story

Our story began in the most unexpected way — over a Monopoly game. What started as a playful “attack” from the bride quickly caught the groom’s attention, prompting him to send a message asking her to take it easy. That lighthearted moment sparked a conversation that neither of us wanted to end. Introduced through a mutual co-worker, we decided to meet in person for what was not meant to be a date — a simple evening of bowling. But somewhere between the laughter, the friendly competition, and the shared smiles, it became something more. From that night on, we knew we had found something special, and we’ve been inseparable ever since. From the very beginning, our time together has been filled with laughter, adventure, and countless unforgettable moments. One of our favorite memories was a date at a local brewery. Brittni, ever the planner, “reserved” the entire brewery just for us and our dogs — or so it seemed. In reality, the bad weather kept everyone else away, leaving us with what felt like our own private evening. Surrounded by our pups, good food, and even better company, it became one of those perfect nights we’ll always cherish. Another special chapter in our story took us to the mountains for a snowy weekend getaway. With the world outside covered in white, we stayed warm inside, playing every board game we owned — more than once — and laughing until our sides hurt. It was simple, peaceful, and completely us. When we first met, Brittni quickly discovered that Richard had a unique approach to laundry — evidenced by not one, but three Mount Everests of clothing waiting to be conquered. It was a moment that set the tone for the playful teasing and laughter that would come to define our relationship. These days, our home is full — five dogs, plenty of love, and Richard’s unexpected serenades. He whistles to the birds while refilling the feeders and even sings to the plants to help them grow… though his song of choice, “Down With the Sickness,” might not be what most gardeners would recommend. Our story has been built on humor, understanding, and the kind of love that makes even ordinary days feel extraordinary. We can’t wait to begin the next chapter — together. We are looking forward to our very special date of Sept 6th, 2026 which will mark our 3rd year anniversary together. #SmittenWithVanHorn
