One of Buffalo's National Historic Landmarks, this former Asylum designed by HH Richardson as part of the Olmsted Parks is now home to Hotel Henry - go get a craft cocktail or check out the Buffalo Architecture Center. Emma's firm, Flynn Battaglia Architects was the architect of record for this award-winning restoration project of the grounds and the main three buildings, that opened in 2017.
The 1895 Louis Sullivan building is clad with terra cotta and was modernized by Emma's firm in the 2000s. If you're in town during the week, there is an interpretive center on the first floor that includes a scale model of the building.
The Ellicott Square Building was designed by Charles Atwood of D. H. Burnham & Company, and completed in May, 1896. At the time of its completion, it was the largest office building in the world. Built in the Italian Renaissance style, the exterior of the Ellicott Square Building is made of granite, iron, and terra cotta with a veneer of pearl gray brick.

Once considered an eyesore, these architectural giants are now part of the redevelopment landscape of Buffalo's waterfront and skyline. They are a symbol of Buffalo's industrial importance as “the Gateway to the West”--- Buffalo was once the largest supplier of grain in the world.
Created from the visions of extraordinary men; David F. Day, Frederick Law Olmsted, John F. Cowell, Frederick A. Lord and William A. Burnham, this masterpiece opened in 1900. Lord & Burnham, premier designers of Victorian glass houses brought these visions to life with their unique design that was based upon the famous Crystal Palace in England.
Built between 1905 and 1908, the newly restored Darwin Martin House is considered to be one of the most important projects from Wright's Prairie School era, and ranks along with The Guggenheim in New York City and Fallingwater in Pennsylvania among his greatest works.

When Rich and I were first looking at wedding venues we came here for lunch and the bartender made us a Corpse Reviver #2 that the 3 of us took as shots - and we debated making Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads our first dance song (I lost that battle).
