We met at a senior party in high school where we had mutual friends. We had gone 4 years of high school without having many interactions before that night. When Ricky got to the party I was dancing away like I normally do, when the song "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon came on. From across the room, I singled him out and we started dancing as I commanded him to "shut up and dance with me". The rest of the night we spent talking and getting to know each other since we knew little about one another. That night we made plans to go running together on Town Lake the following morning. He reluctantly texted me the next morning hoping I would change my mind about going on a jog since we had stayed out pretty late that night. However, I was up and ready to go that next morning, so we went. From that day on we hardly spent a day apart. We graduated High School, spent the summer having a blast, and then continued to date long-distance throughout college. As we are now a few weeks out from graduation, we are so thrilled to be living in the same city again soon and able to begin our lives together. And we are so excited for each one of you to begin the journey with us.
For a few weeks leading up to the engagement day, I had begun to get more and more frustrated with Ricky for his sleep schedule. He had been "saying" he had stayed up late and then slept through till the afternoon, missing classes, not getting stuff done, and from my perspective being quite lazy. But apparently, this was his way of conditioning me so I wouldn't be suspicious come proposal day. So the day of our engagement when I thought it was just another typical day of him sleeping in late, he had been up all morning (because he was so excited/nervous he couldn't sleep) and had driven down to Austin from Waco at 6 am. He went and got a haircut, bought a new shirt to wear, arranged for some friends to pick up flowers, and coordinated a meeting time for everyone to be there when he proposed. I had been planning on doing a photo shoot at Mount Bonnell for a few weeks, and had told Ricky I really want to go back with him again soon because it was where we had our first date on May 9th, 2015. When I walked up the stairs to Mount Bonnell, for what I thought was a photo shoot, I saw a huge group of people staring at me. I, of course, thought this was odd, but when I looked at the group I didn't recognize anyone. And then I turned the corner and saw Ricky standing there with flowers in hand with the biggest smile. As I walked over to him he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I think I said yes... not entirely sure because I'm pretty sure I blacked out from excitement. Then all my friends and family came out from hiding. And as for that group of people I had first seen when I walked up the stairs, they were strangers that saw that Ricky was about to propose and had all stopped to watch. So what Ricky had planned on being a small engagement turned into about 60 people watching him propose. It was such special moment, and oh so perfect!
