Located 25min from the Hilton, Pearl Harbour is a US naval base famous for the surprise attack by Japanese forces in 1941 which lead to the US entry into WWII. Being Hawaii's top tourist destination there is more than enough history to see here than you could fit in a day. If you do plan on going its recommended you should try get an early start as it can get crowded and potentially long waits to see things. Also remember that this is still an active naval base so no backpacks or purses are allowed although you can store them there for a small fee.
The unique profile of Diamond Head (Lē‘ahi) sits prominently near the eastern edge of Waikiki’s coastline. Hawaii’s most recognized landmark is known for its historic hiking trail, stunning coastal views, and military history. Diamond Head State Monument encompasses over 475 acres, including the interior and outer slopes of the crater. The Diamond Head Crater Hike is only 2.5 miles from the Hilton Waikiki Beach and easiest way to get there is either by Uber or with a rental car. The Hilton should also offer day trips out there. Entrance fees are $5 / car or $1 / pedestrian.
Dolphin Quest Hawaii is home to one of the largest and most natural dolphin habitats in the world. This ocean-fed saltwater lagoon is four acres in size and is a protected oasis perfect for snorkeling and swimming. You will get to interact with not only dolphins but a large variety of fish, green sea turtles, and even the occasional monk seal. Offering everything from swimming with the dolphins to sunrise dolphin kayaks on the lagoon there is bound to be something for everyone here. If you are looking to get in some shopping on your trip then look no further than Ala Moana Center. Located 12min away by car this 4 level shopping mall is the 7th largest in the US and the largest open air shopping mall in the world! Consisting of over 310 stores (which we assume all just sell Hawaiian shirts) and restaurants be sure to take an extra credit card or two.
Drive 30min from the Hilton and you can find yourself at Hanauma Bay. The bay is a former volcanic crater that has been a protected marine life conservation area since 1967. Located on the southeast corner of Oahu is a extremely popular destination for snorkeling and viewing over 400 species of fishes, turtles and other marine life.
Nestled in the sleepy beach town of Kailua on Oahu’s Windward side, Lanikai Beach is one of Hawaii’s most picturesque and famous beaches. An offshore reef keeps the water calm year-round, offering excellent swimming conditions. There are also 2 small islands about 1mile offshore which are home to bird sanctuaries and can be easily reached via kayak if you are game. The 45min cross island drive will definitely be worth it.
Located approximately one mile up the road from Lanikai Beach, Kailua Beach Park often is cited as one of Hawaii’s best beach and has even been rated as America's best beach in the past. If you do end up going here you must partake in a refreshing treat from local eatery Island Snow, a favorite spot of President Obama!
