Our wedding will take place in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa at Tafika. We chose this location because it’s incredibly special to us and holds so many meaningful memories.
Absolutely. We know that traveling internationally is a big commitment of time, finances, and logistics. Please know that your love and support mean so much to us, regardless of your ability to attend.
For international travel, we recommend booking round-trip flights into either Cape Town or Johannesburg, then adding a domestic flight to George—this is typically the most cost-effective option. George Airport is about 1.5 hours from Plettenberg Bay. From there, you can arrange a transfer to Plett or reach out to us about possible pick-up options! ✈️
Renting a car is highly recommended if you plan to explore on your own. Having your own vehicle allows you to experience the area at your own pace and is especially helpful for guests staying longer or wanting to adventure beyond the wedding events. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any transportation questions or concerns. We’re more than happy to help figure out the best option for you.
We recommend staying in or near Plettenberg Bay. We will share a list of suggested accommodations at various price points on our website. There are many beautiful guesthouses, Airbnbs, and small hotels in the area.
We would recommend arriving at least 5 days before the wedding if you’re able to do. Since international travel is a big investment, we want guests to have the opportunity to really enjoy South Africa and get the most out of their trip. As well as be able to adjust to jet lag. We’ll be spending time with guests in Plettenberg Bay the week leading up to the wedding and would love to explore and hang out together during that time. After the wedding, we’ll be leaving for our honeymoon, so we recommend planning to stay longer before the wedding rather than after.
The weather in Plettenberg Bay can be a little unpredictable. During this time of year, temperatures typically range from 60–77°F (15–25°C), and it may be rain or shine. We recommend packing layers and being prepared for changing conditions.
Our wedding will be formal. For women: floor-length dresses, midi dresses, or elevated cocktail dresses are perfect. For men: suits or dress pants with a button-down are recommended. No need for black tie or tuxes, but please keep it polished and elevated. We kindly ask for no jeans, t-shirts, or overly casual attire. We also ask that guests avoid wearing white, cream, or ivory, as these colors are reserved for the bride 🤍
South Africa uses the South African Rand (ZAR). ATMs are widely available, and most places accept credit cards. We do recommend not carrying large amounts of cash with you. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted, but Discover is not commonly accepted, so we recommend bringing an alternative card if possible.
Your phone will work if you have an international plan, or you can purchase a local SIM card upon arrival. Local SIM cards are usually very cost-effective compared to international roaming plans. If your phone uses an eSIM, you may only be able to add a South African eSIM if your phone is fully paid off through your provider. This was the case for us, but we recommend checking directly with your phone carrier to confirm your options.
No. U.S. passport holders receive a 90-day tourist entry upon arrival and do not need to apply for a visa in advance.
Yes. Philip was born and raised in South Africa, and Rhyan has spent significant time here over the past four years. South Africa feels like home to us, and we would never ask our friends or family to travel anywhere we ourselves would not go. As with any destination, being aware and prepared goes a long way, and we feel confident celebrating here.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us directly. We are happy to help however we can as you plan your travel.
