Our Love Story

In the summer of 2006, Ishmael had just completed his first year at Florida A&M University and returned home looking for a summer job. Rhode, a student at Bethune-Cookman University, decided to stay in Daytona Beach instead of returning to Miami for the break. Fate placed them both at the same call center, working side by side that summer. Within weeks of meeting, Ishmael asked Rhode out. When she finally said yes, he admitted she’d have to wait until his next paycheck for them to go on their first date. What started as an innocent summer romance quickly grew into something deeper. By the time summer ended and Ishmael returned to school, it was clear this connection was more than just seasonal. For the next few years, they tried their hand at long distance while both pursued their education. Life continued to stretch them Rhode moved to Atlanta to begin chiropractic school, and Ishmael entered the demanding phase of pharmacy rotations. Eventually, distance and timing required them to take a step back, though the care and respect they had for one another never fully disappeared. Years passed. Life unfolded. Growth happened. Then, in 2023, God gently reintroduced them. When Ishmael’s sister invited Rhode to her UCF graduation, Rhode reached out to Ishmael out of respect. What began as a simple check-in turned into daily conversations leading up to the ceremony. The spark was familiar but deeper. This time, it wasn’t rushed or uncertain. It was steady, intentional, and rooted in who they had become. Falling in love again felt easy. Natural. As if time had folded in on itself and reminded them that what is meant for you will always find its way back when the timing is right. This is a love story written not by chance, but by God.
