Pretty scenic walking path along the Dolores river through town. Best to start at the Playground (where the ballfields are) on the south end of town.
Trout Lake is about an hour drive from the town of Dolores towards Telluride. It's a very special spot to our family and many fish have been caught there! It's a beautiful area to drive around or picnic at. If you have the extra time and lung capacity the hike to Hope Lake is beautiful. Also, if you continue on up the highway the town of Telluride is just another 25 minutes up the road. Do know that Telluride is a full day adventure as the drive is a solid hour and half each way.
Amazing place, amazing views. A little shut down due to quarantine but the drive alone is worth it! Usually the gondola is running (and is free). The views are spectacular. If you have the entire day you might want to drive up to and hike Bridal Veil Falls (it's Colorado's tallest free-falling falls at 356 feet). More info on that here: https://www.telluride.com/activities/bridal-veil-falls Best Eats/Drinks: The Bloody Mary at the Tomboy Tavern is to die for! Smuggler's is a fun easy going lunch spot with lots of great beer. Tracks Cafe is sweet for any adventure sports fans, lots of cool signed photos of rad people on the walls. Baked in Telluride has killer treats and baked goods-a great stop for breakfast or dessert. Alpine Coffee is hidden in the back of my all-time favorite book store and serves up some awesome chai tea lattes. If you're looking for something fancier try Allred's at the top of the gondola or La Marmotte for some french cuisine!
