I use to bartend at a Haitian lounge and we had our slow days especially earlier in the night. So this one night it was me and another bartender and this guy walks in with 3 women and I said to the other bartender “Hell nah, I ain’t with the ish tonight.” But she was lazy as hell so I gave in and went to his table expecting much attitude, but they were really nice. Next thing, one of the young ladies came to the bar “wink, wink” for a Red Bull but also to say, “Your cute, you should talk to my brother”. I just took note, but he was lite skin and they be so full of themselves and think they flyer than you (which he does think). So, now I’m standing by the kitchen entrance trying to sneak me a bite to eat before it gets crazy, and here comes this lite skin man with a shirt just tight enough to see his strong skinny arms and flat stomach. “What are you eating?” I told him it was stew chicken, and asked if he ever had it. He told me “No”, which was a lie. I proceeded to give him my fork and let him try the chicken because he act like he never had it. After that I had to get back to work but he stayed at the bar with me the whole time he was there and come to find out the ladies he was with was his sisters. I had to go to the bathroom and had some candy on my bar that the fake chef kept taking so I told him to protect it and dont let no one get any. And he did. We exchange numbers and texted all night. That is when he told me he was only in town for the weekend from Germany to see a band he really liked. He asked me to go with him but I couldn’t skip work just for a party, so we went out to eat at Cheesecake Factory before I had to be to work. But rewind, this man gets to my house and tells me I forgot my wallet at the house. I immediately text my sister becasue 1st of all I don’t usually ride with men and it was a long ride to his house and dark. I thought about every scary movie and all I could do is blame myself if something happen to me. This man in the military he might trip and just have a PTSD breakdown and leave me in the woods. But when we got to the house his sister brought the wallet out, thank god I’m going to live another day. We enjoyed dinner and and looked at each other and I was thinking, “I think I found my baby daddy.” He had to leave back to Germany and we did not see each other for another month which was then Thanksgiving. I was in Connecticut for thanksgiving and left that night and got on the highway and drove back to Atlanta so that I did not miss him. I brought one of my sweet potato pies with me to give to his mom. The power of love and…….. well love will have you driving 16 hours just for 24 hours of your time. And……. He left again, back to Germany, and we talked all my day and his nights as he ate popcorn and drank beer. Then December came around and he was here again for the holidays. We brought the New Year in for 2015 and never stopped bringing them in together after that. We are not perfect but we are #OfficiallyAMathurin.
