From their very first messages bonding over a shared love for dogs to an unforgettable first date in Santa Monica, it didn't take long for Rey and Yvonne to realize they had found "the one." They met in February 2020, just as the world was about to change. Rey narrowly beat the clock, mustering the courage to ask Yvonne out just days before the pandemic lockdowns turned the city into a ghost town. Their first date was a classic: hours of conversation, endless jokes, and a spontaneous midnight drive to an overlook on Mulholland Drive. As it turns out, Mulholland overlooks have a "no parking after sunset" rule, a detail Rey missed. His first interaction with the police became a core memory for Yvonne. She watched closely to see how he’d handle the pressure and talk to the officer. The verdict? Rey passed the "vibe check" with flying colors, and Yvonne knew he was a keeper. From there, the pandemic forced them to get creative. With the health of their families as a top priority, their "courting" phase looked a little different: lots of socially distanced front-yard hangouts and secluded hikes. One of Rey’s favorite memories is a surprise BBQ dinner Yvonne hosted—complete with flowers and a fancy tablecloth—all perfectly set up right in her driveway. It was as romantic as a five-star restaurant, just with a better view of the neighborhood. As the world reopened, their bond only grew. They quickly discovered a shared passion for travel and a deep, soulful love for Mexico. With Yvonne’s family roots in Puerto Vallarta, it wasn’t long before they were jetting off to PV for the holidays. It was there, amidst the cobblestone streets and ocean breezes, that they realized this was exactly where they wanted to begin their forever. Since then, Rey and Yvonne have traveled across the U.S. and returned to Puerto Vallarta many times. It has truly become their home away from home—so much so that Rey chose their "happy place" to pop the question in July 2024.
