We're getting married!

After graduating from ECU, I moved back to Southern Pines and started working for PineStraw magazine. Reuben had just got out of the Army and moved back to Southern Pines to start community college and work towards nursing school. In the fall of 2017, Reuben recognized me on Facebook as the older sister of his high school classmate, my sister, Annick. I recognized him as a cute local musician so I accepted his friend request. We were messaging each other often, getting to know one another and realizing we had similar interests and aspirations. On the Saturday before my birthday, he offered to buy me a drink after I finished dinner with my girlfriends. We met at the local pub and realized the connection we felt online wasn’t a fluke. We felt a spark in person too!

For my 29th birthday, my mom surprised me with a reservation to an authentic log cabin in Boone, NC. It’s one of our favorite places to visit! Reuben and I often camp and hike the many mountain trails. I was excited to spend the weekend there in the winter. I had NO idea what Reuben had planned. We had just arrived at the cabin and I sat on the porch swing looking out at the rolling mountains as the sun began to set. Instead of sitting next to me, Reuben got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I burst into happy tears and said YES!
