How We Met

To give you all a little insight on just how fortunate and lucky we are to have found each other, let us tell you a little bit about how we were brought together and how we will be getting married to each other on October 9th, 2021! As many of you know, we grew up a little over 20 miles away from each other – Reshma in Floral Park, New York and Sam in Clifton, New Jersey. Little did we know that it wouldn’t be until we both moved away from home that we would meet. Reshma just finished up her basic sciences for medical school in St. Maarten and was getting ready to start her clinical rotations. Sam just finished his pharmacy residency training in Memphis and was getting ready to start his first job. For reasons unknown to both of us, we both ended up randomly deciding on moving to Chicago. While we were both excited to start the next step of our lives, we had no idea how BIG that step was going to be. We moved to Chicago in the first week of August 2017. We both decided to get on Coffee Meets Bagel because we each had close friends who had met their significant others on that app and couldn’t stop raving about the app. The first person that showed up on Sam’s matches was Reshma. Sam was too nervous to swipe so he had to come up with the best ice breakers to make sure he was interesting and Reshma would have no choice but to swipe. Thankfully, we matched! Our first date lasted over eight hours and included laughs at the Zoo, sight seeing at the Adler planetarium, pizza in Chicago, and ice cream through a random car wash. As the year went on we spent every free minute we had outside of clinicals and work exploring Chicago together. In addition to exploring the city, we were able to realize how much we had in common and how our lives were so much better with each other in them. At the end of the year, Reshma had to move to Maryland to finish up her clinical rotations and Sam pursued a job opportunity back in Memphis.

Our Engagement

Throughout the next year, we made sure we FaceTimed daily (more like 50 times daily) and saw each other once a month. It was a difficult time, but we realized that we enjoyed being together much more than being apart. During the summer of 2019, we talked about our next steps and future and I had to play it cool and not give anything away. When I thought about where I wanted to propose to Reshma, I had a lot of ideas in mind, but in the end I kept coming back to Chicago. We had shared so many incredible experiences there and I couldn’t imagine a better place to propose than where we had out first date. At the end of September, Reshma flew to Memphis because she had just finished another elective and we always celebrated the end of each of her rotations together. That next morning, I handed Reshma an envelope telling her to not unpack her bags at all and that we were going to Chicago. We spent the weekend revisiting some of our favorite spots, which included Black Bull restaurant, Rotary Sushi, and you guessed it, the Adler Planetarium. I proposed to Reshma on the steps of the Adler planetarium, where just 2 years before, we sat for hours people watching and debating on whether deep dish pizza is in fact a pizza or a casserole. The jury is still out. That brings us to September 19, 2020, about one year after asking the easiest question of my life (and Reshma giving the easiest answer of her life)! We’ve had many adventures already, but we know it is just beginning and want you all there to share our special day and continuing our adventures as one! #ReshFoundSamBodyToLove
