We're Getting Married!

It started in the halls of Wake Forest Divinity School. Two unsuspecting, soon to be best friends, would find a love beyond their imagination… when & where they least expected it. John was a third year Divinity student when he met Renisha. Skeptical about the mystery of love, he tried his best to ignore his curiosity for her. As time continued, Renisha & John kept running into one another in passing, until their paths crossed... During a chapel service at WakeDiv, John was the proclaimer. Renisha was praying for an answer from God, an answer that was given & confirmed through John’s message. Meanwhile, John had to toil with this particular message. It’s as if this word had a special weight to it, a special mandate attached to it, a particular promise in its delivery; as if its presentation would change John’s life forever. That’s exactly what happened. & so it began: Renisha reached out to John through email, to thank him for his obedience to God. From there an email chain, turned text message, turned phone call, turned friendship... After 5 hour phone calls, intense workout sessions, exploration of mountainous landscapes, praying, ministering, singing, & laughing together, the two became the best of friends. ...turned relationship… Eventually, John made the relationship official. Though they both knew they had found their person for life, they continued to take time to grow, get to know one another & finish their school year. John was cooking up a plan though. ...turned engagement… On July 19th, 2019, John popped the question: on a mountain top, at sunset, surrounded by family & friends. Amidst the breath-taking view, the surreal nature of this moment,& the overwhelming happiness that engulfed Renisha, she cried. John impatiently tugged her pants leg to remind her that he (& all those on the mountain) needed an answer. Today, we announce publicly that we will be #LyonDownHarris on December 28, 2019. So of course, Renisha said YES! & the story continues!
