July 1st, 2017 - Canada's 150th birthday - Renette decides to switch her travels plans to attend the celebrations in Berlin before a big trip. It was rainy and the poutine line was long. She sat down at a table - only to strike up a conversation with...Tom! A few months later, Renette needed rescuing from a colleague at a conference and asked Tom if he would rescue 'a damsel in distress' - he accepted. Pizza, beer garden and a planetarium rock show - the rest is history!

After buying their first home, Tom asked Renette to keep the weekend of November 30th, 2019 open for a relaxing date day. After lots of renovations - they would need the break. Little did Renette know, Tom had planned a trip to Barcelona, Spain! He kept the whole thing secret until the departure gate! In Barcelona, Tom organized an afternoon at the vintage amusement park Tibidabo. He eventually propose on the ferris wheel, with beautiful views of the city. How romantic! Of course - she said yes!
