Logan and Renee met for the first time at Sun King Brewery in Carmel, IN, in what had to be fate. During the May of 2020, the Covid mandatory quarantine had just been lifted and Renee was supposed to be traveling to Los Angeles for a summer internship before her last year at Butler University. Due to Covid, the internship was canceled. After two more failed internships due to the pandemic, Renee knew she needed a job for the summer so applied for the first bartender job she found on google, at Sun King in Carmel. Logan was returning to Sun King Brewery for his third summer before his last year at Ball State University. On May 20, 2020 Renee showed up for her first day of work and the two met. On July 1st, Renee lied to Logan and said she was good at golf and Logan invited Renee and their friends Alyssa and Tanner (also married now!!!) to go golfing the next day. Tanner and Alyssa, being great wingmen to Logan, backed out of the plans. In a panic, Renee went home to ask her dad to teach her to golf, Scott Shudick famously replied “Are you crazy?!” but gave it his best shot. By sheer luck, Logan’s patience, or Renee’s impressive athleticism, the two had a wonderful time playing nine holes and Renee had her first par, where Logan says he “fell in love on the 9th hole” and Renee drove home smiling thinking, “This is my last first date.”

Logan and Renee traveled to Italy with their good friends, Dustin (our amazing photographer) and Courtney Ratheal. Renee was extremely excited to share the beautiful country she lived in for two years with some of her favorite people. The group started in Florence and on day three traveled to Renee’s favorite city, Rome. After a few incidents of lost (then found) items, delayed trains, and missed tours, the group decided they needed a drink ASAP. Renee suggested they go to her favorite place, Piazza Navona. Renee said that the most magical and fun surprises had always happened to her there. As they were walking around the plaza before drinks, Logan annoyingly brought up football (the secret proposal code) and Dustin suggested they take some photos. While taking photos, Logan dropped to one knee and asked Renee to be his wife. When Renee tried to tackle Logan and said yes, the piazza exploded in applause. While Courtney cried with joy, Dustin took more photos, and Renee and Logan were distracted in their bliss, a vagrant stole Renee’s purse and ran. When the group realized what had happened, Logan became Jason Bourne and started tracking Renee’s phone and took off in a sprint. Renee, Dustin and Courtney followed suit and after miles of running on cobblestone, the group caught up to Logan where he was tracking Renee’s phone with a police officer. As Renee walked up to the pair, an old woman approached and asked in Italian if this was what they were looking for. Renee’s purse had been found, with only 50 euro and a battery stolen and Logan had saved the day. The very sweaty and tired lovebirds took a deep breath and looked around after the experience and found themselves in the heart of Vatican City, which seemed like a sign from God and a perfect spot to call their families. Shortly after, the group was finally able to get their drink and had many, many things to celebrate.
