October 9th, 2007 When we met in the orientation line at college, neither of our parents expected us to be here 12 years later. Megan: Wendi saw the boy and his dad standing behind us in line, leaned in and whispered he's cute. I turned around, saw him, and agreed. Greg: I saw her standing in line in front of me, The first thing that caught my attention was her hair, She had super long hair that reached to her lower back. I wondered how long she had been growing it out. She must have felt me starting at her because she turned around after a few seconds and we locked eyes for a few moments. Her eyes seemed to have a sunburst effect to them which I hadn't seen before. I must have been thinking out loud because my Dad turned and whispered "she's cute" which I felt was an understatement.
October 2007 - April 2008 Megan: We had every class together and seemed to have similar taste in games and movies with a few exceptions. We would start LAN-parties on my living room table and play anything from Diablo 2 to Grand Fantasia. I even convinced him to play EverQuest and World of Warcraft. We spent so much time together. We just fit. Greg: We saw each other every day for class. Initially, I kept my distance as I had heard she was seeing someone at the time. But with every conversation we had, and with all the time we had begun spending together both in and out of class, I found it difficult to not think about her. I enjoyed whenever she would invite me over to hang out with her, her family, or her friends to play one of the various MMOs or RPGs that she was into. Before I knew it, I was spending every day with her, and only a few months after meeting her, I knew she was becoming more than just a friend to me, and I wanted to be more than just a friend to her.
April 2, 2008 Megan: Jackson faithfully joined us as third wheel while we drove to Malibu, CA to watch the sunset. On the way back Greg's van broke down and we had to call his dad to come get us from a Ralph's parking lot while the van was towed home. the hour wait in the car was filled with music and games. Greg impressed me with his ability to sing One Week (Bare Naked Ladies). Greg: She and I went to Malibu to spend the day at the beach along with our friend, Jackson. We had our fun in the sun and everything seemed to be going perfect, but you can't have a first date without something going wrong somehow. On the way home, my van broke down in the hillside and it took about 3 hours before the tow truck finally got to us. But those 3 hours were just as fun as the beach. We may have been stuck in the van, but we spent time talking about anything and everything that came to mind. Some personal topics came up, and I found that even though we had just started dating, I wasn't shy or embarrassed to talk about them with her. I didn't feel guarded. I didn't feel "fake". She made me feel like...just me. No act to put on. No secrets. I could be who I was.
September 5th, 2017 Megan: We went on a cruise to Ireland, Scotland, England, and Iceland. In Iceland while at the Gullfoss waterfall, me forever the smart ass, standing in front of a glorious waterfall told Greg that "now would be a perfect time to propose." So he pulled out a box from his pocket, got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. Greg: I had initially planned to propose under the Aurora Borealis because I knew she was really hoping to see them. Unfortunately, the weather while we were on the cruise didn't allow for that as the skies were always cloudy during the evenings we were in Iceland. When I had learned the weather would be the same for the duration of our time in Iceland, I started to try and think of other alternatives. None came to mind that I felt were "romantic" enough, but I would take the ring with my each time we went on an excursion hoping that an opportunity might present itself. When she made her smart ass comment at the waterfall, I realized that right there and then was the perfect moment. "Smart ass" describes our interactions perfectly as we always throw witty comments back and forth at each other. So, with beautiful scenery, her witty comment, and the perfect chance to throw her off her game with the unexpected all at once....there couldn't have been a more perfect proposal for us.
May 31st, 2019 After years together and an engagement, we finally were in the right place in our lives to get a place of our own. Megan: We live in a cute little apartment in Koreatown a few minutes from work. I only wish we were a little closer to family. Greg: We had talked constantly about getting our own place, but at the time, my job didn't pay me enough to be able to pay for an apartment on our own. Luckily, a position opened up elsewhere that provided a significant increase to what I was making, and after doing a little bit of shopping around, we found a place much closer to work that we could afford. It's small and can feel super cramped at times, but it's ours, and I get to spend every day waking up to her, and that to me is worth everything.
