Joyce and Reuben first met as co-workers at Wendy's on Kingsway. Joyce approached Reuben for some tutoring in math and English, and a friendly relationship blossomed. Reuben would often spend evenings at Joyce's place, bringing over DVDs of his favorite movies to share with the family. But ultimately, they went their separate ways after both moving on from Wendy's to better opportunities.

Years later, Joyce and Reuben reconnected and found a common fondness for board games. They played together with their friend groups and even joined a local gaming group in Vancouver. Although Reuben was good at introducing and teaching the newest board games on the market, Joyce would always win the classics like Chess.

Joyce and Reuben grew closer, and they had their first official date on Valentine's Day in 2023. They enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Cactus Club, and took a drive to Burnaby Mountain with Tim Hortons to keep them warm. Since then, it has become a Valentine's Day tradition for Joyce and Reuben to come back to Burnaby Mountain to celebrate their relationship.

Reuben planned a surprise proposal on May 3rd, 2025. He popped the question to Joyce during a small picnic date up at Burnaby Mountain, their special place. It was an intimate proposal, but they celebrated with their close friends over a Korean BBQ dinner later that evening. Joyce was genuinely surprised, and it was a happy day for both of them!
