It all began on February 25th, 2021 when I had been set up on a semi blind date. I only say “semi blind” because we had previously crossed paths at a party of mine 5 months before. Although she was at the party, she only showed up because she was invited through mutual friends, Adrian and Jenna; hoping she would never see anyone there again. During the party, I noticed a beautiful blonde girl sitting on a couch, having a conversation with my dad and brothers. Not realizing who she really was or what she was talking about with them, I went on with my night and thought nothing of it. As time went on, I began seeing Sydney around with Adrian and Jenna. Not being one to ever really reach out, I “shot my shot” and asked if she’d be willing to go on a double date. Luckily, she accepted. Until this moment, I had never asked anyone on a serious date before and the nerves were at all time highs. I showed up to Sydney’s apartment in Santa Monica two hours before and waited anxiously until Adrian arrived. Once he showed up, we made our way to the door where Sydney answered. My jaw dropped to the floor before any words were exchanged. Not only was she drop dead gorgeous, but the way she carried herself was something I’ve always looked for in a partner. I would also be lying if I didn’t say that her use of “y’all” really lured me in. Our semi blind first date turned out to be the last first date I ever had. The morning after I had called a couple of my closest friends. When they asked me how it went, the only words I could get out were, “I’m going to marry this girl.” I never knew when, but I knew that I was. Her confidence and selflessness is something that has always reminded me of my mom, who I know is looking down from heaven with a smile on her face.
Mikey and I share a special connection that feels almost fated, like we're linked by an invisible thread that brings people together despite distance or time. In October 2020, my dear friend and roommate, Jenna, mentioned she’d be hosting some guests for the day. At that time in our twenties, it was normal to have friends coming and going, so I didn't pay much attention. However, as I was leaving for a boat day, a lively group entered our apartment, and I caught a glimpse of a tall, handsome brunette among them. A few weeks later, I was invited to a Halloween party by Jenna and her boyfriend Adrian. The party was being hosted by Adrian's college friend, Mikey, the same charming brunette I’d noticed a few weeks earlier. Eager to go, I put on my leather cat costume and headed to the party. I ended up spending most of the night inside, chatting with the homeowner (now my future father-in-law) and playing with their family bulldog. When I left, I thought it had been a great night with fun people I might never see again. But three months later, on my birthday, I received a DM from Mikey, the same one who hosted the Halloween party, sending flame emojis to my Instagram story. My modern-day Shakespeare! I was ecstatic and basically begged Adrian and Jenna to set us up on a double date. The rest, as they say, is history. On our first date in February 2021, I sat across from Jenna and Adrian, with Mikey’s hand resting gently on my leg, feeling sparks I hadn't yet before. I used to think dating in Los Angeles was a lost cause and that I'd have to move elsewhere to meet a truly genuine guy. But when Mikey walked through the door for our first official date, I knew he had me completely captivated in a way no one else ever had. If someone had told me in 2020 that the guy visiting my apartment would become my future husband, I would have been surprised yet utterly thrilled. Mikey, you have changed my life in the most beautiful ways. You've softened my heart and made me experience a love like never before. Every move and decision in life has led me to you and I can't wait to become Mrs. Alvarez and continue our amazing journey together.
