Question

What is a "Polterabend"

Answer

Polterabend is a German wedding custom where guests break porcelain to bring luck to the couple’s marriage. It is believed that the noise of the smashing wards off evil spirits. The word “Polterabend” arises from the German words “poltern,” which means to make noise, and “Abend,” which means evening. In keeping with this tradition, we will be hosting our Polterabend the day before the wedding. There will be food, dancing, and porcelain smashing. It is very important that you bring porcelain rather than glass, as breaking glass is believed to be bad luck. Dress is casual, but still nice, and the event is largely informal. In preparation for our marriage and sticking to tradition, we will be cooking, serving, and cleaning for our guests. We would love to see you there!

Question

What does formal dress entail?

Answer

Formal attire is requested for our entire wedding celebration, including both the morning Mass and reception. For gentlemen, this typically means a tuxedo or formal dark suit with a tie or bow tie and dress shoes. For ladies, floor-length gowns, elegant midi dresses, or other formal attire are encouraged. We kindly ask guests to dress in polished, formal attire throughout the full day of celebration.

Question

May children attend?

Answer

Due to venue capacity, we are limiting the number of children in attendance. Please refer to your save the date or invitation for the guests included in your party.

Question

Do I have a plus one?

Answer

Due to venue capacity, we are limiting the number of plus-ones. Please refer to your save-the-date or invitation for the guest list for your party. If you have questions, please contact the bride and groom.

Question

What time should I arrive to the Mass?

Answer

As the wedding mass begins at 9:00 a.m., we kindly ask that all guests arrive no earlier than 8:30 a.m., as the doors will not open until then, and no later than 8:50 a.m.

Question

Is parking accessible/free of charge?

Answer

Parking for both the wedding Mass and the reception is easily accessible and can accommodate large events. However, we recommend carpooling just in case. For Mass, please park in the Grotto Lot. This parking lot is a two-minute walk behind the Basilica. If you require accessibility accommodations, you can be dropped off directly in front of the Basilica. For the reception, parking will be at Morris Park itself.
