Maggie and Alex first connected at medical school in Toledo, where Maggie generously introduced Alex to the best soft serve ice cream shop to exist (Mr. Freeze, Toledo, OH), despite Alex's insistence that the title belonged to the Cone (Cincinnati, OH). Initial attempts to reconcile these differences in opinion were unsuccessful, and ultimately Maggie and Alex were just friends for the next seven years (or as Alex calls it, "the off season"). They kept in touch with an occasional text or Instagram message, until Alex's fellowship interview season in 2022. He asked Maggie, who lived in Chicago, if there was anything fun to do there on St. Patrick's Day. Maggie took this to mean she would need to entertain him all weekend. Alex didn't bother to correct her. And thus, over a green river in the Windy City, love sparked anew. They spent the next two years dating long distance, with Maggie in Chicago and Alex in Columbus and then Nashville, before Alex moved to Chicago. The transition was as easy as confirming that Maggie knows what she's talking about when it comes to ice cream. Over the past four years, they have traveled, worked, laughed, ate, drank, danced, watched, read, skiied, swam, and LOVED life together. So it made perfect sense when Alex proposed on November 8, 2025 at the Art Institute (except to Maggie, who was told she was attending a children's charity art exhibit. She quickly warmed up to the change in plans). They could not be more thrilled to share this celebration with you - those who have made them the people they are today. We can't wait for November 14th!
