We met at a local Boston watering hole, the Harp, on a chilly Friday evening. Katie met up with her friends for a fun night out, Patrick arrived with his, neither of them expecting this night would change their lives forever! Patrick gave Katie his friend's extra drink and they boogyed the night away. After that we were inseparable, commuting back and forth from Nashua and Boston almost everyday. Katie soon learned how great New Hampshire living is and Patrick got lost countless times trying to navigate his way through much of the Boston area. We have not stopped adventuring whenever/wherever we can and look forward to a life of continuing to be the best of friends.
On the morning of one of the last days in Ireland, Patrick said to Katie, "we should dress nicely so that we can take a Christmas card photo at the Cliffs of Moher.” She thought this was a little silly, but agreed. He wanted her to look nice for what he planned for that day. The two of them then traveled to the cliffs with the rest of the family, arriving 2 hours later than what Patrick had thought, which did wonders for his nerves. When the bus disembarked, Patrick knew he had to find an intimate spot along the cliffs. He told Katie they needed to find a good spot for the Christmas Card, but he really had much bigger plans. Throughout the trip Patrick's mother had been carrying the engagement ring around all of Ireland like Frodo in middle earth, protecting it with her life. She was arguably more nervous than he was all of the trip. Patrick's brother Jimmy and fiance, Sara, were able to steal Katie away for a moment while Patrick snuck the ring from his Mom's care taking, and into his pocket. Patrick then lead Katie along the cliffs, away from the other tourists, to a spot where they could be alone. He took Katie off the foot trodden path and towards the edge. He blabbered for a few moments while his brother bullied other tourists out of their view. As the two gazed out over the endless ocean Patrick said, "you can almost see forever from here, maybe even Medford" The two giggled for a few seconds, and then Patrick turned as he took Katie's hands and said, "forever seems like a pretty awesome idea, huh?". She looked at him with a sparkle in her eye, and he knew it was the perfect time. He got down on one knee and took out the engagement box that he had spent countless hours making before the trip. It was engraved with "Go Deo" - a Gaelic phrase meaning forever. He asked Katie if she would marry him and she said yes, with tears of love and joy in her eyes. It was the experience of a lifetime.
