This is our absolutely favorite part about living in San Francisco! We’ll share a few recommendations here but don’t hesitate to reach out - we’d be happy to go scope out a new hiking trail option :) Urban Hike Recommendations: Lands End, Twin Peaks, Anything in the Presidio. Marin Hike Recommendations: Tennessee Valley, Rodeo Beach, Anything in Mt. Tam, Muir Woods (requires reservation).
A Philz coffee in San Francisco is a must. We love the Mint Mojito (ask for it ‘light light’ if you want to sound like a local) or the Ecstatic. The coffee is made even better with the view of the Bay and if you’re hungover a polar plunge in the Bay is always a good idea. Some other coffee recommendations include Compton Coffee (Pacific Heights), Muesli (Cow Hollow), or Flywheel Roasters (Golden Gate Park).
We’re getting hungry writing out this recommendation. Although San Francisco specializes in other cuisines (Californian, Italian), the Asian food scene is unmatched. Some recommendations include - Japanese: Marufuku Ramen, Rintaro. Chinese: Palette Tea House, China Live, Empress by Boon, China North Dumpling. Thai: Nari, Kin Khao. Korean: Daeho, Um.ma. Vietnamese: Lily.
Looking for ways to shake off the jet lag? Here are some of our favorite ways to stay active around the city. Golf: Presidio Golf Course or Harding Park. Pickleball: Rent courts at Golden Gate Park (you can rent paddles) or drop in for open play at the Presidio Wall Playground. Workout Classes: Rumble Boxing, Karma Yoga, or Core40. We tend to treat ourselves to a cocktail at Balboa, Bus Stop or Palmers after breaking a sweat doing one of these activities.
San Francisco has a surprising amount of Tiki bars. They’re kitschy and randomly fun. We’d recommend the Tonga Room, Pagan Idol, Smugglers Cove (all located near Union Square).
The Presidio Tunnel Tops is a frequented place in the city that we like to go to on Sundays. This park has awesome views of the Golden Gate Bridge and will have a variety of food trucks, including a coffee and cocktail carts making it a perfect place to spend a Sunday afternoon before a flight home! If parks is your thing, we'd also recommend checking out the Golden Gate park.
It's hard not to become a wine snob when you live one hour away from wine country. Here are some recommendations to get you started. Sonoma (more pinots): Rams Gate, Lynmar Estates, Cuvaison, Gundlach Bundschu, Anaba Wines, Hamel, Iron Horse, Thomas George. Napa (more cabernets): AXR, Domaine Chandon, Nickel and Nickel, Alpha Omega, Kenzo Estate, The Terraces, Paraduxx, Saintsbury. Reservations required!
