In the year 2020, a global pandemic struck! This means that a sickness spread across the whole world. We had to wear masks if we went out, there couldn't be gatherings of more than 10 people, and we were told that we could not leave the house unless for essential reasons like grocery shopping. Even then, there were only a certain amount of people allowed in each store. (Daddy had to do a lot of grocery shopping and didn't always get it right! haha) Your dad was unsure what this would mean for his new business, but people still wanted things built, so he kept on working. Your mom was in her first year of teaching and all schools were shut down. She had to gather her things and get ready to teach from home! What a whirlwind! Within one day, life had been completely changed, but I guess that's how it goes sometimes. Getting to the point... your mom and dad were also planning their wedding and not even a global pandemic was going to stop them from getting married. At the time of the wedding, only 50 people were allowed to be there and they had over 150 invited, so they decided that they would flip the whole wedding upside down in order to figure out how to make it feel right again. They decided to get married at Killam's Point in Branford, Connecticut. This was a place that was very near and dear to your mom. She was a camp counselor here for many summers and learned a lot about God's beautiful creation while exploring the caves, woods, beaches, cliffs, and so much more! Then, they hit another snag. Your Grandpa was going to marry them and was only licensed to do so in Maine, so to fix this, they had a small ceremony on the 24th and then they signed the papers on the 25th in Maine. I know what you're thinking, "What about all the people that you love that didn't get to come?" Well, we ended up having ANOTHER ceremony a year later where we had the time of our lives celebrating with our closest friends and family! It was perfect!
Three years ago, Morgan was working on a Summer Ministry Worship team through Eastern Nazarene College and Luke was the waterfront director at China Lake Conference Center, which happened to be one of the camps that Morgan's team traveled to. It was a beautiful sunny day when Morgan was down at the waterfront with her team. They noticed the two lifeguards on the dock and Morgan's immediate thought was, "Wow! Who is that?" followed by, "He is way out of my league!" Luke's immediate thought was, "Wow! That blonde girl is cute." followed by, "She is way out of my league." It had been a hard end of the summer for Morgan, so instead of spending the night watching Moana with the rest of the camp, Morgan decided to spend that time under the stars, talking with God. Little did she know, Luke was close by talking with his dad on the phone about how he met this awesome worship team! Their paths crossed when Luke was walking by Morgan and she yelled out, "Hey!" not knowing who it was. Luke yelled back, "Hey, who's that?' When Morgan realized who it was, her heart skipped a beat, but it just about stopped when he asked to come sit with her. They talked and talked about everything from how amazing God is, to their past relationships. The instant connection was almost scary. The next summer, Morgan came back to work at China Lake as a counselor and lifeguard and the directors "coincidentally" gave them the same breaks more often than not. Their love kindled and they began dating in November of 2018.
