We met while working at the Omega Institute of Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY. We both had been working there on-and-off since 2012, but our paths didn't cross until one fateful day in the staff trailer park in August of 2019. We started dating, casually at first but it soon got serious when we happened to agree on all our favorite Beatles songs and when Adam took care of Sarah when she was sick. After the season at Omega ended and before Adam left for 2 months in Ecuador, they spent a month on Cape Cod getting to know each other better. Adam left for South America while Sarah worked at the holiday market in NYC and traveled to California. When Adam got back it was late February 2020 and we all knew what happened next. What we thought was going to be a week vacation back on Cape Cod turned into our lockdown shelter. Quarantined in a in a one-room cottage on Adam's dad's property the relationship was really put to the test. But we survived! Even through the tough times, we were grateful to be stuck together. Fast forward to December 2020, Adam proposed to Sarah on her parent's rooftop in Brooklyn with a big bouquet and a ring that was shaped like a twig. She said yes, obviously, and they agreed to a long engagement. In the meantime they continued to build their life together in Kingston, NY with Sarah's beloved cat-son, Monte. When the topic of wedding finally did come up in Fall 2021, Sarah and Adam were quick to realize that they were on the same page of how they wanted the day to go: small, easygoing, and Jewish. They knew that they wanted a progressive Rabbi and their parents there as witnesses. They figured what better place than where they quarantined! A full circle moment indeed. So on April 29, 2022, they left Omega (where they will both be working this season) and heading to the Cape. Sarah's parents drove up from Brooklyn, NY and the weekend unfolded from there...
It was an absolutely beautiful day on Cape Cod, we couldn't have asked for better. Adam spent the morning with his dad, Alan setting up for the 4 o'clock, backyard ceremony. Using branches found around the property, Adam and Alan built the chuppah. George, Sarah's father enjoyed his morning with a cappuccino at a cafe. Meanwhile Sarah, her mom Marion, and Adam's stepmom, Jane were relaxing at the salon getting their hair and make-up done. Fate would have it that while getting her makeup done Sarah became sick (nerves + empty stomach + matcha latte was a disaster waiting to happening!) As sick as she felt for the remainder of the day, Sarah and Adam knew that the show must go on. With a slight delay and nausea meds on hand, they moved their ceremony inside to the couch. It couldn't have been more casual but fitting nonetheless. Surrounded by their parents and a wonderful photographer, Jude Barlett, Sarah and Adam were married by Rabbi Debbi Mangan, a sweet and passionate woman who blessed their union with the traditional benedictions. After signing the ketubah, the Jewish sacred marriage agreement, with their dads as their witnesses, Sarah and Adam read the letters that they prepared for each other. Sarah couldn't get through any of it without crying (of course). The ceremony ended with the best known tradition of the groom stomping the glass. The couple kissed and the rest is history to come...
