How We Met

It was out first year at Texas Tech, sometime in September of 2014. We were both just kids, 18 years old. We had no idea what we were doing with our lives, but nothing seemed impossible. Reed and I met in the lobby of his freshman dorm, Coleman. He was with a group of his friends and I was with a group of mine. I thought Reed was very cute, so I made the first move (very uncharacteristic of me, but so happy I did). I complemented Reed's shoes and hair and he smiled (such a great smile) and thanked me. We ended up ditching our friends and hanging out the rest of the night. We talked and laughed for hours, slowly falling in love. I found Reed insanely smart, charming, and the funniest person I'd ever met. He made me feel like the prettiest girl in the world, something every girl deserves. We've been inseparable since meeting, and the rest is history. I am the luckiest girl and I can’t wait to marry my best friend.

The Proposal Story

March 16, 2022

I knew I wanted to marry Christina when she was away at grad school. We spent years together at Tech and I never got tired of her and when she was away for 2 years, I never stopped missing her. I started looking for rings when she graduated. I wanted to get her the best, so I did my research. I learned about the 4Cs, decided on a setting I loved, and knew I wanted it to be platinum. I thought platinum would look nice on her skin tone and I liked that it patinas over time, so it would age with our relationship. One morning I woke up to find the perfect diamond listed on the jewelry website I wanted to buy her ring from. I remember immediately texting her that I was nervous, and I ended up buying the ring 2 hours later. I racked my brain about how to propose. We love nature and whenever we go on vacation we always go hiking. So I decided I would do it on a hike. I wanted it to be somewhere beautiful and private, so it took a while to find the perfect place. For 7 months I would carry the ring with me while we went on hikes. Since I carried the ring on every hike we went on, I had it when we went to the nature preserve at Garvan Woodland Gardens. While walking through the trees we saw the bank of the Ouachita river, so we decided to sit down and watch the river for awhile. It was picturesque and there was no one around, however before I had a chance to propose Christina got up and started walking on the trail again (she later told me she got a nervous feeling and got up). I felt as though I had missed my chance, and we kept on walking. Eventually the trail lead us onto a peninsula on the Ouachita river, we sat again to enjoy the view. I decided I wasn’t going to miss another chance, so as Christina got up to get back on the trail I pulled out the ring and called her name so she’d turn around and I proposed.
