How We Met

Two Ps in a Pod

Pete and Paige met the modern way, on a dating app, at a time in their lives when both were seeking much more in a relationship than what is typically offered in the New York City dating scene. It was November 25, 2019 when they met for a drink in Manhattan for their first date. The instant chemistry felt effortless as they spent hours talking over a bottle of Spanish wine as a light snowfall fell outside the window. That night they discovered they both had a love for history, music, food, sauces of all kinds (buffalo sauce, especially), travel and even a family Pepsi/Frito Lay connection. P&P’s first international trip together was to Paige's friend Julie's wedding in Guatemala. Peter bonded instantly with her friends and helped the group navigate through the country with his Spanish-speaking skills, honed during his years studying and working in Argentina and Costa Rica. Little did they know that a life-altering global event would take their lives in a new direction. When the pandemic struck, the couple immediately left New York City and headed to Savannah where Peter's family and friends have a home on Whitaker Street. Peter's great-great-great-great uncle, Oliver Sturges, was a resident of Savannah on 27 Abercorn Street and a part-owner of the first steamship ever built and first to cross the Atlantic. P&P spent the next two months in the city, followed by three months at Paige’s family’s house on Lake Martin in Alabama and a month and a half at Peter’s family’s home in Blue Hill, Maine, in addition to time in Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA and Fairfield, CT. This whirlwind journey brought the couple closer together than they ever could ever have imagined. Almost one year to the date of their first meeting, Peter knew it was time to make official what he knew to be true in his heart. He proposed to Paige overlooking the mountains at her brother's vacation home in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
