It was January 16th, 2019, Tommy's birthday, when two strangers entered into a freshman-level Introduction to American History class at the University of Iowa. Both were seniors who simply needed additional elective credits to graduate and both had an interest in history. Throughout the first few weeks of class, glances were made at each other, hands were raised to answer the teacher's questions (or rather to get the other's attention) and Tommy's broken laptop would interfere in Sammy's ability to figure out his name. And then one day, February 13th, 2019, Tommy sat next to Sammy in class out of the blue. They became fast friends. With an upcoming paper due, one that Sammy had already written, she lent Tommy the book so he could do his. Once he finished, he chased her down the hall after their lecture, returning her book. With now only knowing his first name, Sammy went to the library and embarked on a mission to find out who this person was. With the help of her friend Katie, they were able to track him down. And by surprise, they were more connected than they realized! Sammy's roommate Payton knew Tommy very well. In fact, she often studied with him. Sammy's other friend Denice even went to high school with him. Sammy needed an excuse to reach out to Tommy. They just got their grades back from the paper. Sammy then asked Payton to ask Tommy's friend Mike for his number. Sammy texted Tommy and asked him what he got on his paper. From that point forward, the two spent the semester studying and laughing together. Both would agree it was perhaps the most fun they had in a class all throughout college. The last day of class was May 1st, 2019... Sammy's 22nd birthday. ..... and the rest is history. American History.
