We get it! You can either be excited or bummed about a destination wedding. It was a very hard decision for us. One thing that has strengthened our relationship is our fondness for adventure and exploration. Our love for travel has brought us many new memories along our journey as one. We could not think of a better way to express our love for one another on our wedding day than by creating a completely new experience for us. We want you to know if you can make it out, we're beyond grateful and can't wait to celebrate with you! BUT if you can't, we completely understand why! We promise, no hard feelings!
The sooner the better! Since this is a destination wedding, your room booking will count as your RSVP. We ask that everyone book their room by 12/1/22. To ensure all of our guests are included in all of our wedding activities we ask everyone to book their accommodations through our wedding website. We have rooms blocked off at the Barcelo Maya Colonial Hotel. A $100 deposit will be needed, per room, at booking. Final payments for reservations will be due by 5/1/23. Please remember a minimum three night stay is required. You are always welcome to stay longer than the three nights if you choose :) We recommend arriving one to two days before the actual wedding incase of flight delays or travel problems.
Yes. Accommodation requests can be made when booking. For example, if you are needing a room on the first floor, make sure you add this in the comments section.
If you have any questions about booking your room we highly advise reaching out to our travel agent Dawn Koutsky. She can be reached by email at info@wishtowandertravel.com
We are going to be staying July 15th-23rd, 2023. You all can stay however long you like though :)
No it doesn’t matter if you are vaccinated or not for travel to Mexico. We will keep you updated on any changes. Currently, there is no COVID testing requirement to enter Mexico or to enter the USA.
YES! ALL guests require a passport to enter Mexico. Since this is an international trip, you do need a passport valid AT LEAST 6+ MONTHS PAST YOUR TRAVEL DATES. If you have a passport, be sure to check the expiration date. Processing times for passport applications and renewals can take up to a few months, so don't wait! Renew/Apply ASAP. Visit: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports.html for more information.
Absolutely! There are so many fun activities around the resort for the kids! Barcelo also offers babysitting services during your stay for a small fee.
We would like for everyone to put their phones and cameras away during the ceremony so that everyone is "in the moment". Don't worry we will have a photographer capturing it all. You are more than welcome to have your phone during the reception and to take all the pictures your heart desires. We can't wait to see all of them!
Flight prices are currently unavailable as we are too far out as this point. 6-8 months before the wedding is usually the best time to purchase tickets at the best price. You can book flights on your own. You will be flying into the Cancun Airport (CUN). Side note: When coming out of the Cancun airport every single person will try to get you to take their taxi or sell you something. Just continue to the doors that lead you outside. We will post a link for transportation options so you can have it set up before you arrive. You will most likely have a short wait. Grab a beer and relax. The ride to the resort is about a hour.
You will go through the 1st part of customs with papers you fill out on the plane. (SO BRING A PEN ON THE PLANE AND HAVE YOUR PASSPORT HANDY ON THE PLANE). Then you will get your luggage and then you will go to the 2nd part of customs with your luggage (sometimes they will stop you sometimes not, it's all random). Finally, you will go through the airport to the outside to find your transportation company. WHATEVER YOU DO KEEP WALKING! People will try and sell you stuff left and right...just keep going and say no thank you and find your transportation.
As this is a destination wedding and in consideration of your travel convenience, you are not expected to bring a gift since your presence is gift enough. If you still want to give us a little something, we do have a registry setup (see registry tab).
Men must wear long pants to the specialty restaurants! Women must also dress nicely for the specialty restaurants (no jean shorts etc.) You can wear whatever to the buffets as long as you aren't in your swimsuit. Men can wear their swim trunks with a t-shirt and females are good to wear a cover-up as long as it's not open in the front.
It will be hot in July, a swimsuit and beach coverup is usually the daily attire...lol! Shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, flip flops. Don't forget a nice outfit or two for the specialty restaurants that you make dinner reservations for if you choose. They require men to wear long pants and close toed shoes, dress shoes aren't required but any closed toed shoes. Women are able to wear anything dressy enough for a nice dinner out, they do allow open toed shoes for women just no flip flops. Enough Sunscreen for your entire stay! (It's very overpriced on the resort). Damprid is a good idea as well to help with the excess moisture in your rooms. Since you know it is a tropical place, also any medications you may need or usually take. There is a small pharmacy on the resort if you should need something. Don't worry about bringing beach towels. The resort provides them!
Yes, many resorts, tours, and stores take both USD and pesos, but be sure to prepare your credit and debit cards. Call your bank and let them know the dates you will be gone. Charges made at the resort or elsewhere on your trip may be subject to a foreign transaction fee by your bank (normally 1-3%). The local currency is the Mexican peso, although US dollars are easy to exchange should you wish to take foreign currency with you. There is an ATM on-site that will give out pesos. Pesos rate changes daily. $1 USD could be equivalent to 19 pesos one day and 15 pesos the next.
Depends on your carrier. You should be able to check your plan to see if Mexico is covered in your plan. Or you may be able to add it for a daily fee. Make sure you ask your carrier how to set this up so you're not stuck in Mexico without it if you plan on using it. You may also get free WiFi if you go to https://www.barcelo.com and sign up for My Barcelo before your stay. It is free to sign up. I highly recommend screenshotting the map of Barcelo and other important information so you have it even if you do not have service. Side note: Each room does have a safe. We do recommend locking everything up.
Tipping the bartenders, housekeepers, waiters, is appreciated but not necessary. If you tip you may get more alcohol in your drinks, quicker service, and more snacks in your room. It’s also a great thing to do since the employees are so kind and hardworking.
Yes, please make your request early so we can ensure your meal is correct for the reception. At check-in you can tell them you have a certain diet/food allergy and they will print a card for you to take to the restaurants. We want you to enjoy the week as much as we will without having to worry about what you can and can't eat!
Hours:6-10:30pm Sante Fe: Steak & Meat (Tropical Lobby) Capri: Italian Menu (Tropical Lobby) Kyoto: Japanese teppanyaki and Asian fusion (Colonial Lobby) Marenostrum: Seafood menu in Mediterranean-style restaurant (Colonial Lobby) Tokyo: Japanese cuisine (Entertainment Centre) La Trattoria: Pasta and rustic Italian-style pizzas (Entertainment Centre) La Fuente: Spanish cuisine (Caribe Lobby) Mexico Lindo: Mexican Cuisine (Beach Lobby)
You must book your specialty dinners in person at guest services located in each lobby. I HIGHLY recommend you book them the moment you check in to ensure you get all the restaurants you want at a time that is convenient for you. Guest services desks are also located on the ground floor of each room building. Dress code to access the a la carte restaurants: Men 13 and older must wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. Women can wear open-toed shoes/sandals. No beach shoes/flip-flops. No beachwear. For children over the age of 13, the dress code is the same as for adults
