When We Met

1.6.2015

We met in Tempe, Arizona at naturopathic medical school at the beginning of 2015. Rebekah was a mature 3rd year student and also a teacher's assistant for anatomy lab, and Scott was an immature 1st year student in her lab group. We essentially met in the presence of cadavers (dead bodies). We didn't really talk much because Rebekah thought Scott and his friends weren't very nice. She thought they were all "jocks." One day, Rebekah was talking about the softball team she was on to other students, and Scott overheard her. He was a baseball player back in the day, so softball really piqued his interest. Scott ended up joining her softball team in the spring of 2015. The softball field was where our friendship truly began.

The Proposal

12.29.2018

For months leading up to the proposal, Scott would tease Rebekah. "Should I propose today? I think I'll propose today." This went on for a few months (this included getting down on 1 knee to tie my shoe in front of her). She really didn't like this. The goal was to catch her off guard, which Scott definitely accomplished. Our good friend Marcus was visiting his family in New York from Arizona, so we decided we would meet him in the city to catch up. Little did Rebekah know, this was when the proposal was going to happen, and Marcus would be there to use his photography skills to capture the moment. The Rockefeller Christmas tree was where we were, along with hundreds of other people! Scott intended on proposing here, but it was packed and no room for proposing. We were walking around, Marcus and Scott panicking over where he was going to propose. We shoved and stumbled our way through the crowd to the Christmas Light Show on Saks 5th Ave. We saw an opening in the crowd, and Rebekah was completely distracted by the amazing light show; this was our one chance. Marcus gets in position, while Scott looks around making sure nobody was looking. Rebekah turns around to see Marcus with his camera facing her while Scott is on one knee holding a ring. Rebekah thinks he said the words "Will you marry me?", but she was so shocked all she said was "Are you serious?" This was the result of Scott pretending to propose for months prior. Rebekah thinks she made him wait a good couple minutes before she realized he was serious and she should say something... She said yes and only a few people in the crowd noticed, with some quiet applause and congratulations from strangers. We all celebrated by going to BareBurger and enjoyed delicious food together. It was an amazing night! We are so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you! See you in Sumner!
