"When's the big day?!" "August 2nd, but don't be surprised if we just show up to family dinner surprise-married one day!" And that's exactly what we did! On July 25th we got married in our living room, in the presence of the cats, the dog, Rebecca's sister Sara Beth and Richard's best friend Matt, with the assistance of Tate, the best brother-in-law-notary-public there is. The next day, we gathered with our families for a dinner to celebrate our (as far as they knew) impending union. During the obligatory photos beforehand, we announced that we were already married, which made for the sweetest surprise AND the best photos, courtesy of our server at the restaurant!
Our story shares a common beginning with many a great modern love story: we matched on a dating app. On August 2, 2023, our first date took us to the Thirsty Pig for 2000s music themed trivia (we lost… but we did win best team name for “Mom’s Spaghetti”). We have been inseparable ever since. On Saturday, May 10, 2025, Richard proposed following an epic scavenger hunt that included antiquing, Krispy Kreme donuts, and a tornado warning! The next leg of our journey together takes us to Gainesville, Georgia, where Richard will earn his doctorate in clinical neuropsychology from Brenau University. We look forward to exploring and taking advantage of all that our new home has to offer: concerts in Atlanta, weekend hikes in the North Georgia mountains, and more. We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has embraced and encouraged us during our time in Dothan. Our “village” truly means the world to us, and we feel immeasurably blessed to have been loved by each of you. Cheers & hugs & kisses, Rebecca and Richard
