A chuppah is a a wedding canopy above the couple that symbolizes the presence of God above the partners and the new home they will share. The open sides of the chuppah are said to represent the openness of the couple and their willingness to share everything in life. The open sides are also said to represent the hospitality of Abraham and Sarah who opened their homes to strangers and serve as a reminder to be considerate of others. Chuppot are often designed to be unique to the couple with decorations or components that are sentimental and important to them. Our family and friends are very important to us, so we would like to include all of your names and blessings from each of you on the fabric that will be above us during our wedding ceremony.
Short blessings and wishes for us to receive on our wedding day and to carry with us for years to come so we can be reminded of the love of our family and friends. Please limit the entries no more than a few sentences. Feel free to included longer messages in the email if you'd like. We will read these longer messages, but know that they will not be added onto the chuppah.
Please email your blessings and preferred names, as you would like them to appear on the chuppah, to RebeccaJonathan81321@gmail.com by July 31st to be added onto our custom chuppah. Preferred names can be your nickname, full name, or your whole family’s name.
Chuppah is an approximate transliteration of the Hebrew word חוּפָּה and thus is difficult to write in English letters. Please view this video for the correct pronunciation and a brief overview on the meaning behind the Jewish wedding canopy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KYYinMgfn9k
