How We Met

HER SIDE

When I walked into my new school on the first day of 7th grade, I can't say that I knew I was about to meet my future husband. I'm not sure what I would've said if you told me that the boy from homeroom, who used to serenade me by singing "Shot Through the Heart" by Bon Jovi, was going to be the man I'd marry someday. Though I didn't know at the time I was meeting my other half, we did date for three months that year & he even was my very first kiss, which I quickly realized I wasn't ready for because well.. I was twelve & couldn't be tied down just yet. After that we went to different high schools & lost touch for a couple years, but luckily for me, fate stepped in one day junior year while I was walking home from school & I ran into my old friend. Our friendship quickly grew & we were pretty inseparable for a while. I no longer considered him an old friend, but a best friend. He had asked me out a time or two, but I just couldn't see us as anything more. We got past it & through all the craziness of life, he stuck by my side... staying up until 5am on the phone watching Ghost Adventures together, joyrides, flat tires, horror movie sleepovers, eating sushi & way too many glazed donuts. Eventually I went to college & again we would drift in & out of each others lives, but through those four years we always found our way back to each other. Now, I have questioned my faith many times in life, but I know a higher power was always leading me back to him. It has always been him. One night, the simple act of giving me a ride home changed everything, it was just somehow finally clear that I had to give this a chance. I was feeling something new & I confessed those feelings to him (in a text because I was a chicken). The rest is history. The second I took that leap it was all over for me, the love I had been waiting for was there all along... & I am so SO lucky he was patient. I could go on & on but I have to save something for my vows! I love you Will.

How We Met

His Side

In 2006, when I was 12 years old, I started my first day of middle school. I had to go to a different school than all of my friends because of where I lived and you could say I was pretty upset about that. Little did I know that my time in middle school would bring me the most important person in my life. I met Rebecca in our home room and instantly had a crush on her, I had to get to know her. I ended up getting her phone number in math class, where the teacher said we should swap numbers with a classmate in case we were out and needed the homework we missed. Very smooth. Flash forward a few months and we were ‘dating’... albeit was more of a ‘Where can our parents drive us tonight?’ Sort of thing. We didn’t end up working out back then because you know, we were twelve. So we just stayed friends. We lost touch during the early years of high school but reconnected one afternoon in 2011 while we were both walking home from our different high schools. We ended up hanging out pretty much non-stop after that, we were practically inseparable at times. I always had a thing for her, but the timing was never right. We never quite clicked like I had hoped and we still wouldn’t have that spark until 2016. I was working full time and was focusing on my career while she was finishing up college. One night she invited me to a mutual friends graduation party and I decided I’d go with her, after not seeing her for a few months. That night somehow everything just clicked and we started dating shortly thereafter. Here I am three years later, engaged to that same beautiful girl from home room and writing this ‘How we met’ story. We’ve both come a long way... and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
