We both swiped right, and the rest was history. We both had returned home to Fort Polk, Louisiana, after being gone for three to five months. I was enrolled in the Army's Captain's Career Course in San Antonio, and he was deployed in Kuwait. We both decided to take a chance on love before the Holidays and we have never looked back.
We were on a weekend getaway, celebrating Roland's completion of Command. Roland asked me to go with him to a jewelry store in downtown Houston, to repair a broken watch. I was not happy that our original plans to spend the day by the resort pool would, instead, be spent in Houston traffic to run an errand on our mini vacation. Nevertheless, I went along with the change of plans, leading to the surprise proposal at the jewelry store! Roland never had a broken watch, but he brought it with him as a prop so I wouldn't suspect a thing.
Due to the Army's crazy lifestyle, we had decided to get married before our big celebration in June. The wedding was small and located at the county jail. I guess you can say we came out with our new "ball and chain"!
