Why are you The Bobs?

seriously, what the heck?

So.... we get this question a lot, and we don't have an exciting answer. We THINK this started from a simple typo of "bab" instead of "babe". Which then morphed into a funny way of pronouncing Bob. We were both babe -- so then we both started using Bob. The name is so ingrained at this point that calling each other by our actual names just means we must be in trouble!

How We Met

Our story is a classic tale of boy meets girl, girl rejects boy for 7 years, and then finally... girl comes to her senses!

Rebecca and Quentin met freshman year at The George Washington University in DC. For almost all four years of school they saw each other weekly when Quentin had band practice and Rebecca had rehearsals with her a cappella group in the same space. Quentin was not shy about his infatuation, but despite his persistence, Rebecca was not interested and had a boyfriend. After graduating, they both stayed in DC and both moved to the same neighborhood. Quentin's crush never subsided, but still no progress. In late spring of 2013, they ran into each other on U Street and Rebecca was... single! There was an instant magnetic force between them and that summer they fell in deep. However, they often questioned the longevity of the relationship. He was very selective with his words, a republican, liked funk music, and a mostly serious kind of guy. She was like an explosion of glitter, super animated, obsessed with Justin Bieber, very liberal, and a goofball. PLUS this was the first time Rebecca had ever dated a non-Jewish guy. Could this really work? They joked early on that the only thing they had in common was their disdain for red onions. Somehow— they made it work! They even worked through being long distance for almost 2 years while Quentin worked for Jeb! in Miami, and then while Rebecca traveled in Thailand and South Africa. While vacationing in Bali in 2016, they discussed their future together. A move to a new city, new career paths for both of them, and a desire to forever commit to each other was on the horizon!

The Proposal

9.7.2019

In September of 2019, the two rented a cottage on Lake Travis an hour outside of Austin. It was a month late, but the “staycation” was planned to celebrate their 6th anniversary. On the morning of their departure, they cooked a feast for breakfast, and with their favorite borrowed dog in tow, they went down to the dock to enjoy one more perfect meal. There, just before taking a bite, Quentin got down into a “cross-fit squat” and asked Rebecca to marry him. She said yes!! and then they excitedly jumped into the lake! Bunker got to witness the whole thing! (and of course also jumped into the lake). Little did Rebecca know, a quiet intimate proposal was not all that Quentin had planned. They packed up the car, drove home, and made their way back to their apartment. Rebecca opened the apartment door and was then COMPLETELY surprised to find her parents and Quentin's parents awaiting their arrival!! The happy tears flowed!!! Quentin planned a surprise party at the apartment and they spent the afternoon with family and friends celebrating. It also just so happened that Rebecca had a gig with her band that evening at the Oasis. The celebrating continued long into the night with more friends, family and of course live music!! The other female singer in Rebecca's band does a beautiful version of "At Last", so Rebecca and Quentin got to share a lovely first dance as an engaged couple to wrap up the evening! WHAT A DAY!!
