Rebecca: I was supposed to go to the Lotus Festival, but on the day I started feeling nauseous and had the feeling that I should stay home. I felt called to open my dating app that I was getting ready to delete and this enigmatic man's profile caught my attention. His energy really captivated me, but there was a catch. Phoenix: I had been living out in the desert for 2 years a couple of hours drive from Los Angeles. I was a bit lonely, and had been feeling a pull from the city. I had been nursing a broken heart, but had reached a point of opening up again. One night my phone dinged, and I looked to see I had, what the dating app calls, a "Super like!" Intrigue turned into excitement, and we quickly chose to meet up at a local wine bar in LA. Rebecca: We immediately hit it off. The conversation was easy. And, he was just as easy on the eyes in person. He also had a warmth about him that I loved. We played the “Why you shouldn’t date me” game, something I’d never done on a first date. This date felt different. It felt like something special. Phoenix: Her boisterous laugh filled the bar and her joyful exuberance filled me up. We made plans to meet again, and again…and again. Something struck me on the second date though. If I were a spiritual or religious person I would say that I received a download or that some spirit talked to me. But, since I am neither I’ll just say it was a profound clarity that struck me to my core. I was going to be with this woman for a very, very, very long time. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together, and we’ve been each other's support through hard times, and we’ve cheered each other on through the good ones. Life has felt more full, more alive, and more complete since we met. What was your most memorable date? Phoenix: For Rebecca's birthday, I took her out to a Star Wars themed Burlesque show called "Empire Strips Back". We got all dressed up like we were going to a black tie event. We arrived at the theater only to find out that I had booked tickets for the following month. Whoops!! LOL!! We laughed so hard, if at my expense, but it was a riot. Rebecca brought us to a Star Wars themed bar up the street called "Scum & Villainy", where we would later have our engagement party. It was so much fun. Highly recommend!! What's your favorite activity together? Phoenix: We love to travel together (hence getting married in Rome), and plan on visiting many countries. At home we love to cook together, explore new restaurants & bars, practice photography (Rebecca is really skilled), and host gatherings for our friends. What's the most memorable trip you have taken together? In October 2023, we took our first big vacation to Italy. We spent 2 weeks making our way from Rome up to Venice, driving through the Tuscan countryside on the way. The journey included lots of laughter, plenty of getting lost, vistas that looked like paintings, more art than we could possibly fathom, and the best sandwich ever. And, it all started with a surprise, romantic engagement in front of Rome's Trevi Fountain. We’re on the same page about: the idea that life should be lived to the fullest. (We are not on the same page about how spicy food should be. Rebecca can literally eat hot lava.) Family and community is really important to both of us. And we love spending time with the people we love most. A life goal of ours: To create a family. We also are creating an abundant life full of travel, community and finding ways to make positive contributions to the world.Update! We now have a little one. <3 Her name is Scarlett and if you haven't met her yet, you'll get to meet her at the wedding! The dorkiest thing about us is: What isn't dorky about us? [Rebecca: personally, I prefer the term "nerd," but that's cool.] This is what happens when a witch meets a sci-fi nerd.
