Their love story began February 2013. Michael and Rebecca were in high school, it was the day of First Chair Honor Band. Michael sat behind Rebecca and her thoughts were “he’s weird and needs a haircut”. She knew at that very moment that this weird, shaggy haired boy was going to be apart of her life in some way or another. In June 2013, Rebecca graduated high school, and was off to Disney World with her high school band. And if it wasn’t fate, they both ran into each other the same week, same time, same place, at PIZZA PLANET. It is now Fall 2014. Wind Ensemble. Del Mar College. Rebecca asked her friend Susana who the guy was sitting behind them, and she said “Sam?”. Rebecca said “No, Not Sam! The other one with glasses”. It was Mr. Michael. Now on the other hand Michael’s internal thoughts were “Is that Becca?” He did some investigating, found out that in fact it was Becca, and thought to himself “Damn, she got even cuter.” So romantic! We’ve finally come to some social interaction! I know this is what you all have been waiting for. This entire time no words were ever exchanged until November 7, 2014. Rebecca worked up the courage to message Michael. Becca first messaged Michael on Facebook, but found out he was driving at the time of her message so she got mad with him and gave him her number (how slick, Becca) and told him to text her when he got home. Now if things weren’t coincidental enough, exactly one year from the date of the courageous message, Michael asked Becca to be his girlfriend, November 7, 2015!
Five years of memories later, Michael proposed! It was Becca’s Birthday. It started out at their favorite Chinese restaurant, followed by a visit to Becca’s mother’s grave. Becca went out and talked with her Mom for a bit, she stood up to say her goodbyes and as soon as she turned around, there he was on one knee with the ring. He asked her to marry him, and she said YES! Michael picked this specific spot to ask Rebecca, because he wanted her mom to be the first one to know.
The main diamond on the engagement ring belonged to Rebecca’s mother. It was passed down to Michael before she passed away, giving him her blessing.
