We got engaged on 12/12/20 during our first actual date in months because (thanks Covid!) to a drive-through Christmas lights show. As we were half-way through the light show, Mark said, “What does that say? Will you marry me?” My stomach instantly filled with butterflies and my heart leapt into my throat as I looked at him in shock and said “What?!” then turned my head to see an unlit “Will you marry me?” sign. I quickly realized he was just commenting on someone else’s proposal. Eventually, my heart stopped throbbing out of my chest and we enjoyed the rest of the light show. Then, as we were leaving I said to Mark, “You have no idea how much my stomach dropped when I heard you say ‘Will you marry me?’” To which he said, “Oh yeah?” as he pulled the car over and stopped. As he got out of the car and headed to the back I said, “What are you doing?” and he said, “I have to check this GPS.” which was the worst excuse ever because the GPS is built into the dash of his Jeep, lol. At this point, I have some crazy thoughts running through my head as I hear him rummaging around in the back of the car but just told myself “Just keep looking at your pictures of the lights. Everything’s fine.” Finally, Mark calls me to join him at the back of the car. I get out, walk around the back where he has the door open and the words “Marry Me” spelled out in the trunk with light up letters. I was completely shocked to say the least! I looked at him with my jaw on the floor as he got down on one knee and said “Will you marry me?” Well, at least that’s what he claimed to have said because all I could hear was the equivalent of angels singing “ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh” as he opened the box to reveal the ring. Mark had purchased a special box with a light on the top that shone right down on the ring making it utterly stunning as it sparkled in the light. I said “YES!” right away followed by, “That’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen!” The funniest part about that night is that Mark had done such a good job the months prior throwing me off the scent that he was going to propose that I kept asking him, “Are you sure???” 😂🤦🏼♀️ The truth of the matter is he had bought the ring months before. Our Relationship in a Nutshell If someone were to ask us what the most common thing that occurs in our relationship is, we would have to say laughter! We find ourselves laughing so hard one of us falls on the floor at least 3-4 times a week. Sometimes even in one night! Both of us are goofballs and, when we get together, we almost have our own little language of inside jokes. While we are so compatible with each other, we also contrast each other in a very complimentary way. Mark’s the planner and I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl. He keeps me on track with all the little to-do’s of life and I help him learn how to roll with the punches. It’s a dynamic that has worked out quite perfectly. We love playing games, having mini-golf tournaments, binging shows on Netflix, and just tackling life together. We feel so blessed to have each other and are so excited to celebrate our marriage with all of you. All of our guests have helped shape who we are today in some way and we’re so grateful to share our big day with you!
