Both Rebecca and Mads moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2010, though it would not be for another 2 years that they would really begin the relationship they have today. They would actually spend an entire year on the same Trojan swim club team without really speaking to each other, and another year with facebook messages here and there. But in October 2012 they finally took a chance to get to know each other after striking up a conversation at the swim house. After flowers, movies and dinner dates, a month later they made it official on November 12th 2012.

Mads and Rebecca flew to Bermuda summer of 2018 to give Mads a taste of his first Cupmatch, little did Rebecca know, Mads had a surprise in the same backpack she had rummaged through on the flight over. Because Rebecca left Bermuda at 17, Mads wanted to share this experience with her family. After asking the father of the bride for permission the day before, Mads waited for the mother of the bride to return to Bermuda from her own trip. Whilst Rebecca and Margret caught up and unpacked their delicious House of India dinner, Mads bent down on one knee and popped the question with Mother looking on. Both hearts racing, she said Yes and sister Kristin and maid of honour was called over to celebrate!
