The Beginning

midwest to the wild west

We met in our high school meteorology class. I (Rebecca) had just switched my schedule the 1st day back from winter break, showed up late to 1st period, and the rest is history. It took him a lot of time and courage, but a Facebook message later changed everything. We slowly starting talking more at school and through text, and from the beginning I knew this was different than any relationship I had ever had. Around the end of April 2013, Kyle told me that after graduation, his family was moving to Phoenix and he wouldn't be back until he started his freshman year at USI, which was located in Evansville about 2 hours away from home. After only having 2 months together, I couldn't believe I would have to give up everything after we had built so much so fast. After countless late nights (ugh time zones) and a million FaceTime calls, Kyle was back in Indiana. One road trip later, I was hooked again. We started our "long" distance relationship and did the best we could. Fast forward one year later I was graduating high school and moving to college. He'll never let me live it down, but I chose to go to school even further away at the University of Kentucky. Now that we were 3 hours apart, hello, long(er) distance! I hurried up my schooling so that we could both graduate at the same time. We decided to start our own adventure in Phoenix!

The Proposal

Unexpectedly Expected

As more of my friends were getting engaged, I was getting a little impatient. We were approaching our 5 year anniversary and we had talked about rings, but I was trying not to get my hopes up too much. In August 2018, we arrived to the Outer Banks for the usual Davis family vacation. I woke up the first day with the worst cold I've had in years. Kyle claims he was going to do it on the beach before dinner that night, but since "I looked horrible" (actual quote from Kyle), he decided he would try again the another time. Two days later, Kyle decided that he wanted to get it over with. He woke me up from a nap and told me to find his mom in 10 minutes. She told me to change into an outfit for pictures and I knew this was it. We walked to the beach to find him standing there waiting. I don't remember a single thing he said, but I said YES! We made it back to the beach house where everyone was waiting for us and we had our own little celebration. We couldn't be more excited to start our lives together and share our special day with our friends and family.
