We met freshman year of high school in second period biology class. We were seated in alphabetical order and we just so happened to be at the same table. Neither of us were good at biology, so we attempted to help each other... essentially it was the blind leading the blind. We developed a great friendship that has lasted for almost nine years! It wasn't love at first sight for one of us... if you know, you know... but it worked out in the end!
Kwon had been home on summer block leave for the month of July. One day he told me to dress nice for dinner and that we were going to see some friends afterwards. I thought, "Awe Kwon planned a nice night for us, but why can't I change before we see people?" He made us a delicious dinner served with Pinot Grigio which he knows is one of my favorites. After we ate, we drove over to our friend Ryan's new house that Kwon insisted I go look at. I was wearing a dress and heels and thought "does he really think I want to walk around this big house right now?" Ryan proceeded to mention how his family was going to be getting a pool in their backyard and wanted us to see where they were going to put it. As we entered the backyard, there were twinkling lights placed into a path leading up to an iron bench I had helped his mom pick out for her front porch, or so I thought. There were rose petals all over the ground and suddenly I knew this was the moment. As we started to walk down the path, Hunter Hayes "Wanted" started playing in the background. Kwon got down on one knee and that's where I blacked out... I guess I said yes!
It all began months before when I first reached out to my mom, best friend, and Becca's best friend to try and make this night special and unforgettable for Becca. Of course they were all excited and more than willing to help. The actual night of our engagement, I tried my best to lie and hide my true intentions from Becca, however I had a feeling that she knew something was up considering I had her get out of her PJ’s (which anyone who knows her knows that this is an endeavor). I made it seem as though we were just going to look at my best friend Ryan’s new house and then we were going to hang out with our friends later that night. When we got done with the very fast and improvised house tour, my nerves began to go crazy as we went to the backyard and I realized that the next 3 or so minutes were going to change the rest of my life. I was confident that she would say yes, however, all that confidence went out the window as soon as I took a knee. My mind went completely blank as I somehow managed to stumble through a speech that I had been trying to plan for weeks yet totally forgot. That being said I ended up doing my best at improvising something romantic... I guess whatever I said worked because she liked it enough to agree to marry me!
