It was at her older sister’s baby shower that I laid eyes on her for the first time. She was the host for the party, and it almost seemed like Rebecca was plugged into a wall because of the glow that surrounded her. After a quick ten-second interaction, she was headed back to Atlanta and I thought nothing more of it. It wasn’t until a whole year later, at a Galentine’s event for the women at my church that I laid eyes on her beauty once again. The glow was still there. (I’m telling the truth lol) This time, I knew I had to speak to her again and get to know her better so I brought a little extra confidence. Unfortunately, it was another short interaction, a quick “hey, nice to see you” followed by a goodbye and she was headed back to Atlanta. *sigh* Still, something told me our story wasn’t meant to end there. Obviously it was the Holy Spirit, right? I refused to let that be the end, so I did my due diligence and reached out to her older brother and asked if I could take him to lunch. He had no idea my real reason was to ask about his sister’s relationship status, and thankfully for me, she was single and available. He threw the perfect alley-oop, and I slammed dunked it like Dwyane Wade to LeBron James. Shortly after, Rebecca and I began texting. What started as conversation quickly grew into three months of building a genuine friendship, which blossomed into a 15-month journey of dating, laughter, prayer, and growing together in love. That journey led me to asking her to spend forever with me proposing and throwing her a party the day before her birthday. Now, here we are, ready to fully devote our lives to one another under the covenant of marriage, grateful for every moment that brought us together and excited for the beautiful, God-ordained future ahead.
