Ethan and I both decided to commit to Depaul University's The Theatre School which requires freshman to do a week long Chicago Discovery course the first week before school. During this first week, I attended shows, learned to ride the "L" and attended one too many orientation lectures. On our first day of school, the freshman class attended yet another of these mind-numbing lectures on alcohol and drug saftey (it's important, kids). I'd met up with my best friend, Camille, and we quickly found seats in the lecture room among tons of students and their parents. At the start of the lecture, our peppy host asked us to do our millionth ice-breaker and turn around to introduce ourselves to a person behind us that we did not know. Camille and I turned around and I was smiled at by a handsome blonde wearing a band tee. Yes, it was Ethan, just like that. He and his mom, Kelly were sat right behind me, and I instantly thought he was much too cool for me. We introduced ourselves and learned we were both theatre majors. From there we ended up in a class together and our friend group became the same... and the rest is, well, history.
On the very first day at DePaul I sat behind this really cute girl during our orientation. We happened to be in a class together that quarter, and started to hang out together with a group of friends. At some point early on we got on the topic of nose piercings. Turns out, we had both had our noses pierced while we were in high school, and had taken them out due to being in shows. I really wanted to get it pierced again, so a few days later I asked her if she wanted to go get them pierced together. That’s a super weird thing to ask someone you barely know to do with you, but I did it anyway. Astonishingly, she had been thinking about doing the exact same thing earlier that day, and agreed to go with me. I don’t remember this part but Becca claims I was doing laundry right before we left and she was worried I would flake out on her. But I didn’t! That night we took the train to Chicago Tattoo and Piercing Co. on Belmont. A few minutes later the piercing artist Alison came out and said “Ethan, Becca, come to the back and let’s stab you in the face.” So we went to the back and got stabbed in the face. Afterwards we decided that we needed some pizza, so we went across the street to Cheesie’s to get some mediocre pizza. Throughout this whole ordeal we had been talking and starting to get to know each other. Neither of us were sure if this was a date or just two friends getting their noses pierced and also pizza.
