We met while we were both in school at Auburn. On our first date, I remember Ari wore a shirt that said “YOLO” with bright green shorts. We watched a terrible horror movie about Hansel and Gretel, he was sick as a dog and spilt wine on my white couch. Ari thought to himself “I’m never going to hear from this girl again.” Well, here we are six years later saying “I do.”
Ari decided to propose on the second to last day during one of our European travels at the Pena Palace in the city of Sintra, Portugal. According to what he saw on the internet, it was a quiet castle nestled up in the Sintra mountains. Little did he know, it is a main tourist attraction for people traveling throughout Portugal. It also happens to be a three mile uphill hike from the train station through a rainforest. Ari took me around the castle and finally said he wanted to go to the top of a staircase that went...well nowhere. When we got to the top of the stairs Becca started crying, Ari proposed and the rest is history.
