Rebecca and Cody’s story began in April 2021 at a high school track meet in small-town Tioga, ND. Though they were drawn to each other right away, their story took a little time to unfold. That summer brought them together through state fair concerts, camping weekends, and shared favorite spots. Their first official date was fall 2021 when Cody drove back from Valley City to watch a high school football game because Rebecca insisted upon a public date—ending the night at a froyo shop (which Cody later admitted he doesn't like). On September 18, 2021, the timing finally felt right. The next season of life included long distance while Rebecca finished high school and Cody played football at VCSU. In fall 2022, Rebecca joined Cody at VCSU, where they both compete in track and are pursuing degrees in education. They moved in together in January 2023, welcomed their puppy Nala, and soon after received their greatest blessing—Harper. Through the joys and challenges of young love, academics, athletics, and parenting, Rebecca and Cody continue to choose each other every day. On March 5, 2025, during what Rebecca thought was just another family walk, Cody proposed at the VCSU Alumni Bridge—and she said yes. Now, as they prepare to be married on May 30, they look forward to a life filled with love, dreams, and continuing to choose each other forever.
