Question

Jewish Wedding Traditions

Answer

A few beautiful Jewish traditions you’ll see throughout our celebration: Badeken – The Veiling Before the bride arrives at the Chuppah, the groom will lovingly place a veil over her face. Chuppah – The Wedding Canopy We’ll be married under a chuppah, symbolizing the home we’ll build together. It’s open on all sides to represent hospitality and openness. Kiddushin & Ring Exchange The formal betrothal ceremony includes blessings over wine and the giving of a ring, marking the sacred bond between bride and groom. Ketubah – The Marriage Contract You’ll hear the reading of our ketubah, a beautifully written marriage agreement outlining love, respect, and commitment. Sheva Brachot – Seven Blessings Seven blessings will be recited under the chuppah, expressing joy, love, and our shared hopes for the future. Breaking the Glass At the end of the ceremony, the groom will break a glass. This tradition reminds us that even in times of great joy, we remember the brokenness in the world. Hora & Traditional Dancing Get ready to dance! After dinner, we’ll celebrate with lively Jewish dancing, including the hora—where the bride and groom are lifted on chairs! Henna Celebration In Moroccan tradition, a henna is held before or during the wedding—a festive celebration with music, sweets, and blessings. The bride and groom will be carried out on traditional Moroccan chairs.
