When Jake and I met neither one of us had a clue how exciting, loving, and fast paced things would come to be. We met on a break at work. Jake was quiet and kept to himself but I wasn’t going to let things stay that way! I called him over to befriend my little work posse and something just clicked. We had our introductions and shared a couple laughs. After that we planned many breaks together; we call these our “mini dates”. Jake can tell you this better than I can, he made me work for that first date! It was about five months after our initial meeting. That date was amazing and a little wild, but something just felt right. Soon after we decided to make it official. We set boundaries and rules for our relationship but that changed pretty quick. We met the families early, said the ‘L’ word, and even took a trip with his family! It’s no surprise we’re here now, and we can’t wait to start our forever together!
On the night Jake proposed I remember wondering when he may pop the question. We had talked about it for months and he told me he had an idea. After bugging him with questions he finally told me it would be, what he refers to as, “cliché”. I ran scenarios through my head on what he had planned. My top two thought were a dinner proposal or a New Year proposal. Even though I got it right I was still surprised! We planned a date night and Jake said he wanted to go to a nice restaurant. We decided on Mahogany‘s. Jake had been talking about how he had wanted to try their food so I figured it was a regular date. We had our meal and right before dessert I stepped away to the bathroom. When I came back the waiter was bringing us our cheesecake and he had this odd look on his face. He set the cake down and Jake asked if I wanted the first bite. I picked up my spoon but quickly set it down when I saw there was a ring on top of the cheesecake. I told Jake that it wasn’t a funny joke but he assured me that it was no joke. He then grabbed the ring and asked if I would marry him! It took me a couple minutes to stop crying and say yes. We then received champagne and celebrated our engagement!
