Once upon a time in January of 2012 Chris “poked” Ashley on Facebook. Ashley “poked” Chris back a week later. Chris then slid into the DMs & accussed Ashley of being the “slowest poker ever” & the rest is history! On our first date Chris showed up an hour late & at first I thought he stood me up! Thankfully, as I was about to leave I just happened to run into my sister on Venice Island which ended up stalling me a bit. To my surprise I get a text from Chris saying he fell asleep and lost track of time! (Not surprising now after 8 years of dating) I decided to give him a chance anyway since I was already out. That date ended up being the best date I’d ever been on. I learned that he had the best taste in music, the most contagious laugh, & witty sense of humor. We talked & laughed for hours until my midnight curfew. Chris left for college in Colorado & I still had two years left of high-school. We tried to be responsible & do the “right” thing by ending things so Chris could experience college in all its glory. We made it “Facebook official” by changing our relationship statuses to single on our last day together before he moved nearly 2000 miles away. Many sad tears were shed that day because neither of us wanted to. (I know, so dramatic) We never stopped communicating & decided to stay together & take it day-by-day. After his first year Chris moved to Tallahassee to continue the rest of his degree in sports management & I followed him a year later to pursue nursing. During those 4 years in Tally we grew as individuals, & as a team, experienced many firsts & even adopted our most prized possession, Arlo. We loved Tally & were sad to leave but we moved back to Sarasota where our close friends & family are. On Valentine’s Day, (He is so not the cheesy proposal-on-a-holiday-kina-guy that this threw me a curveball) Chris got down on one knee & FINALLY asked me to be his WIFE. Eventually I said yes after crying and laughing hysterically.
