Omar and i were fortunate to have met when we were only 5 years old at Los Altos Elementary school. Ironically enough he also lived a couple houses down from me, we basically grew up together as we have been neighbors our whole life. We were good friends through out middle school, and in high school we became best friends. He was my go to person, the person who supported me regardless of any decision i made, the one who lifted me when i was down and sometimes even caught me before i could fall. He was my homecoming and prom date, there is no one else i would've rather gone with than him. After high school we drifted apart for a little while as life took us two different paths; however still managed to occasionally keep in contact. Looks like God had a different plan for us because somehow we came back to each other.
Chantal and I met when we were about 5 years old. She was the girl next door as she literally lived a couple houses down from me. I always knew there was something special about her and knew that there was a reason for us knowing each other and living close to each other. in 3rd grade I remember receiving a note from her that stated will you be my bf and 2 boxes under one under the yes and one under the no. Of course I was all excited and checked the yes box even though I was all shy and we never really hung out or talked that much in 3rd grade. throughout elementary I remember one day in the YWCA (afterschool program) we were playing football and Chantal was really fast and good at sports and I ended up teaching her how to throw a football and from that day on I knew that I wanted to be with this girl. we grew up going to same middle school and high school, and I always had a crush on her and always wanted a chance to show her I'm something special. Senior year came and we were great friends and I was always there for her with a shoulder to cry on and she was always there for me whenever I needed her. We went to homecoming and prom together and I knew that I couldn't wait to get a chance with her. I remember writing in her senior year book that I would marry her in the future. After high school we drifted away from each other a bit and talked every now and then but I always had a special feeling about her and looked like I was right and now I am the luckiest guy in the world because I am going to marry my childhood love.
On January 16, 2015 he asked my sister Thalia for help into tricking me into thinking we were going to the mall. For those of you who know me know that i hate the mall so you can only imagine how hard it was to convince me to go especially because i had a date planned with omar later that day. As my sister was driving i noticed we were not going in the right direction for the mall she actually took me to seaport village where omar was already waiting for me. She stopped right in front of the harbor house handed me an envelope and asked me to get out of the car. Once i read the card in the envelope i realized it would be a scavenger hunt and i only know one person who puts so much detail into what he does, Omar. We had a beautiful dinner at the harbor house and after dinner the scavenger hunt continued and after a nice walk through seaport village he presented me with a heart key necklace and asked me to be his girlfriend.
With the help of Anthony and his wife Theresa he succeeded in making me believe we would all go see phantom of the opera. Knowing that these events are formal i went out shopping for the right dress to wear to this event. The day of we were driving to the Omni Hotel where we would meet Anthony and Theresa, and he asked me if i saw the Padre baseball game to which i had answered no. While we waited on his friends he asked me if i wanted to go to the roof top and look over at Petco park where they had done Trevor Hoffman face on the field. To me it seemed like doing something adventurous because no one is allowed up in the roof top so i said yes. By the way he did a great job at acting like we would get in trouble for doing this. Once we got to the top he blind folded me and as we walked toward the view of Petco park he told me " When i take off the blind fold look straight ahead and don't look back". There it was, a picture of us on the Petco park jumbo screen followed by a slide show with a beautiful message by him. As much as i tried to hold back the tears i just couldn't, When the screen said "Chantal Abigail Vargas Will You Marry Me?" And on one knee he was there offering me this whole new life to share with him. I was so happy and excited that everything felt like a dream. When we went downstairs he still surprised me by having my family down at the lobby watching everything on facebook live. He knows how important it is to have family around when there is moments like these. I cant picture my life with anyone else but him and i'am excited to say we will start our journey together February 1, 2020.
